Do not go to any other web site other than the official website to obtain the correct drivers. You never know what drivers you are getting from other sources. You have been warned.

SOURCE: Sound problem

Go to control panel, and check device manager to see if you have any problems. If not, click on Hardware and Sound, then on Sound, and see if somehow your laptop speakers have been turned off. Reconfigure them anyway, and test the sound there. If that doesn't fix it, go to IBM and reinstall Realtec. Sometimes it gets corrupted, and sometimes it takes more than one installation to get it fixed. Let me know if you have any problems.

No audio/sound output from this compaq presario laptop despite having installed realtek audio driver and HD driver? what might be the problem

Well as you mentioned that you have already tried installing the driver then also the issue persists then it might be either a problem with the service responsible for the sound to work or the sound card .

In order to check that the sound card installed on the system is working perfectly we need to perform certain steps.

1.Restart the system and tap on the F10 key for while till we get to the BIOS SET UP UTILITY.

2.As soon as we get to the Set up Utility try tapping on any keys on the keyboard it would give BEEP sound.

3.If we get the Beep sound then the sound card is working and its a problem with the Operating System and we need to perform a couple of more steps,if it does not beep then the sound card is bad and call up Hp to get it replaced or get in touch with a local store.

4.Now if the keys beep on the Bios screen then we need to perform a couple of more steps on the Windows to check the functionality..

5.Click on Start, in start search or run type SERVICES>MSC and then hit enter.

6.Locate a service which reads as WINDOWS AUDIO.

7.Right click on that service and click on properties.

8.Check the status of the service...if the service is already started then the STOP tab would be highlighted or vice-versa.

9.If the service is started stop it and then again restart it, and if the service is stopped start it..

10.Now in the middle of the screen we would see a start up type tab, there would be a drop down menu next to it.

11.The drop down should be set to Automatic

12.Click on APPLY and then OK.

13.Restart the computer and then try installing the Realtek Audio driver and check the functionality..

Hope this works

The voice and sound on my laptop is not working dell d10

Step 1 .Reset the default BIOS settings:
You can try resetting the sound default in the BIOS. Here's how:
1. Turn the laptop on. When the Windows logo first appears, press the F1 key or Dell key repeatedly until you see the BIOS setup screen appear.
2. Press the F5 key ( Setup defaults). In some other PCs depending on the manufacturer the BIOS at start-up will have one of the default options that have names such as - ‘Load Fail-Safe Defaults’ and ‘Load Optimised Defaults’.You will have to choose ‘Load Optimised Defaults’
3. Select Yes or OK, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.
4. Press the F10 key, then select Yes or OK to save the default settings. Press Enter.
5. Exit the BIOS and restart your system checking for sound.
( For most system's entering the BIOS will be the same but if it differs for your system, consult the operating manual for instructions on entering the BIOS.)

If this doesn’t work go to step 2

Step 2 . Configuring on-board sound in the BIOS:

The on-board sound setting in the BIOS should be Enabled. To enter the BIOS, turn on the laptop and when the first screen appears, press the F1 key /Dell key repeatedly until the BIOS Setup screen opens. Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to select the Advanced tab. Press the DOWN ARROW key to select Onboard Audio Options and press ENTER. If Onboard Audio Options is not available, select I/O Device Configuration and press ENTER. If Audio Codec is listed, select it and press ENTER. Select either Enabled or Disabled depending on your configuration and press ENTER. Press the F10 key and then press ENTER to save and exit Start Windows and check for sound. If there is still no sound, continue to the next Step.

Step 3 . Reload the current sound driver

To do this, follow these steps
1.Click Start, type Device Manager in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.In the Device Manager dialog box, expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
3.Locate the audio device that was included with the computer.
4.Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
5.Click the Driver tab.
6.Click Uninstall.
7.Make sure that the Delete the Driver Software for this device check box is cleared, and then click OK.
8.In the Device Manager dialog box, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
You should see a message that a hardware device is being installed. Additionally, the uninstalled audio device is now present in Device Manager.
9.Close the Device Manager dialog box, and then determine whether you can hear sound.

If that doesnt work and you have an installation CD, the audio drivers should be on the disk.

If you don’t have the CD go to your computer manufactures web page to search for updated sound driver software. Read the instructions on the download pages carefully
before installing.

If there are no updated sound drivers available, use Microsoft's Windows Update feature. Connect to the Internet and try the following items until Windows Update opens:

1.Click Start, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
2.Click Start, click Settings, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
3.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update (if it is listed).
4.Go to Microsoft's Web site and click Windows Update from the Downloads menu.

Check if the sound works now….if it still doesn’t work then most likely the sound card might be faulty.

My daughters new ACER laptop that she got from Santa has no sound what so ever.

Strange that a brand new computer has no sound.

1. Does the laptop have internal speakers, or must you connect external ones?
2. Can you hear anything from connection headphones?
3. In sounds and audio properties, does the sound happen to be MUTED, or completely down?

If after checking these things we still have no sound at all, it may be necessary to enter BIOS in case you have to enable ONBOARD AUDIO from within there. To enter BIOS, right after booting up the machine, there will be a message saying to press F2 or DEL or some other key to enter it. Once inside, it will probably be in the PERIPHERAL CONFIGURATION section. Look for REALTEK AUDIO, or AC'97 SOUND, something relating to onboard sound and enable it. Save and exit.

Once enabled, if you still have not sound, then it's time to reinstall the AUDIO DRIVER.
If Acer happened to provide a CD or DVD with drivers and software, now is the time to load it and select the audio driver to be reinstalled.
I doubt that they did, so you will need to obtain it from the Acer site, based on your specific MODEL NUMBER AND WINDOWS VERSION, XP OR VISTA, very important to get the right one.
Please be sure to follow instructions on how to install driver, they can be picky.

Finally, in case Acer did not include RESTORE DVD'S, it may be wise to use their erecovery program to make them. The instructions on how to make them appear at boot time, like the message for entering BIOS.
It will be something like hit F10 to enter recovery console. Just have a couple of blank DVD-R discs at hand, and follow the instructions. They will let you make these only ONCE! But its good to have them in case the recovery partition on the hard drive is corrupted later on.

In fact, being as this is a brand spanking new computer, it might not be a bad idea to make the recovery DVD'S, and just reinstall the entire thing fresh, because that is the best way to have Windows, programs, and DRIVERS installed at factory settings.

That is a lot of information to swallow, but I tried to give you as many scenarios as possible. If I was not able to FIXYA! please be kind and DO NOT vote. thank you.

System sound not working on Dell Inspirion 6000 laptop

There are two sides of the problem. Hardware and software. To check whether the hardware is defective:

Try running the Pre-boot System Assessment (PSA):
1. Shutdown system
2. Press and hold on the "Fn" key.
3. Press the power button to turn the system on while holding on the "Fn" key.
4. Run the PSA until you get to the "colored bars". Then press "N" to say no.
5. Should you hear the beep codes, that means that the sound card is working fine. If you don't hear anything, then you need to replace your motherboard.

Now if your hear beeps that means that there's something wrong with the driver and audio settings. Do the following:

1. Right-click on My Computer then click on Properties
2. Click on Hardware then Device Manager
3. Click on the (+) beside Sound and Audio Devices
4. Right click on Sigmatel then click "Uninstall".
5. Go to
6. Click on Drivers and Downloads
7. Enter the Service Tag of your system (found at the bottom of your laptop)
8. Then download the audio driver. Just save it on your desktop first.
9. Restart the computer.
10. Install the driver.
11. Go to Control Panel -> Sounds and audio
12. Make sure that Sigmatel is the default sound device.

Please rate this solution if this helps.

No sound on my computer!!!

Hi Ivan,
That single beep you hear is called P.O.S.T. Power on self test, telling you the board is fine. Your sound not funicationg is another story. The onboard sound (ALC655/ALC658 from RealTech) Must be enabled in your bios. How to enter my bios?
At power on press the delete key every two seconds & the main menu for the bios will open. You know you are in the right place because the time 7 date settings are listed. The online manual does not show any detail for your bios settings so guiding you is not going to help me, help you. How to move around in your bios? (No mouse & thats normal). Look at the bottom of the screen for instruction on how to move about. You need to find Advanced (Heading). In side advanced you should be able to fine audio settings. Your audio must be set to Enable or On. Again look to the bottom of the menu for instructions on how to move about. After setting the audio to enable Save & Exit the bios. The PC will restart by its self.
After windows finishes loading you can load the Biostar CD into your CD-ROM. It's splash screen should load. Click Drivers & install your (ALC655/ALC658), drivers. You can also download the drivers from this link & click Run.

RealTech has another updated driver at this link. (Click on the link & it will load the web site).

After installing the software restart your PC & check your sound.

If after running the install files & restart you find no sound, you will have to try installing directly through device manager.
And that's another story!
Give it all a go & post back here if you need more tweaking.
