Question about Air Tools & Compressors
Contacts on switches, contactors, starters are rated in amperes, volts, and horsepower. Your motor is probably a 40 amp/230V/ 1phase on a 50 amp circuit. If it's a 3phase motor, it is a 25 amp motor on a 40 amp circuit.
A 7.5 HP motor should be on a contactor or starter, not on a pressure switch because of the amount of current or amperes used. Otherwise, use a pressure switch rated for 7.5 horses at voltage supplied.

There is a capacitor across the contacts
To absorb the inductive collapse if the motor.
But this problem usually only happens to DC motors not AC.
If the starting Cap has 2 leads I'm stumped if it has 3 leads replace it.
