Slide power switch then slide and hold the power switch in the off position for more than 8 seconds. this will reset the device. you might have to do this a couple of times

If the above doesn't work, you should update your device software by visiting the content manager page of the magellan website

SOURCE: Broken touch screen

if it is cracked then most likely it will need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs. If its not working correctly you could always try to do a screen calibration.

SOURCE: GPS touch screen sprayed with Windex; doesn't work.

After reading sharcnet's reply yesterday that putting the unit in the freezer was absolutely the wrong solution, I was very panicked! However, once the unit thawed out it worked fine. We tried the freezer because we've used that tip before to "freeze-dry" cell phones that got wet. Luckily the LCD was not damaged & everything is working fine now. And my husband knows not to spray Windex on any electronic screen!

SOURCE: I have a Magellan Maestro 4250 and touch screen not responding

Yes. The hard reset is the little pinhole on the left. Just use a pin and poke it. It should bring everything back to factory default and all saved info, addresses, routes etc. will be deleted.

Is there a process known to man that cleans windex streaks off an lcd screen?

How to Clean an LCD Screen
So, first of all, let's decide what we don't use to clean it:
Anything containing bleach or ammonia, such as Windex. That will react with the plastic and make the plastic screen become cloudy and discolored.
Anything sharp, pointy or abrasive.
Your easiest choice is one of those LCD cleaning solutions they sell in places where they sell computers. But they're expensive, and why bother when you can make your own solution for next to nothing?

What you'll need:
Distilled water (available at your supermarket; tap water leaves streaks and minerals).
White vinegar (you may substitute isopropyl alcohol; either way, make sure these substances are diluted before they come near your screen).
A clean, soft cloth (never use any kind of paper product).
A spray bottle.

Directions:
In the spray bottle, mix the distilled water and alcohol/vinegar, in a 1:1 ratio.
Turn off the LCD display.
Spray the mixture onto the cloth, never directly onto the screen.
Wipe gently - oh, so gently - from top to bottom. Do it horizontally, too, if you think that leaves a cleaner result.
Let the screen dry before turning it back on.

Hands Off!
Fingers leave dirt and oil smudges that must be cleaned off. Also, every time you touch the screen you risk doing damage to those tiny creatures inside that hold the colored flashlights. Keep your fingers to yourself.

To determine if there is an issue with the touch screen, you need to
follow these steps:-
* Turn on the unit and select any user.
* Select 'Option' from the keypad.
* Then select 'Configuration'.
* Scroll down to select 'Diagnostics”.
* Scroll down again and select 'Touch Screen Test”.

If you can complete the 'Touch Screen Test ', it implies that there is no issue with the touch screen. The most effective way to use the touch screen is to select using the tip of the finger or with a blunt end of a pen or a stylus. However, if you cannot complete the touch screen test, it would imply that there is a problem with the touch screen.

I don't have any voice and the touch screen is slow

kaelor, Yes, that would be my first instinct.. that is if I was in a shop with spare parts lying around.. but I'm guessing your not so... 1st off we are only talking about the touch screen's respones time right? You said the enter button is slow to react as well.. so that makes me think keypad too. If both are reacting well, then try resetting the user data. yes, all of your POI's would be erased if you did this.. so if you can't afford that to happen , then don't do this. 1. At user menu (upon initial boot) 2. press + key and repeat (on top) button 3. select reset user data, then select the verify yes button. 4. unit will reset, post back on here and let me know if this worked.
