Internet Connectivity Problem

I have a broadband connection and am using HP Pavilion (dv6000 series) laptop with vista home premium as my OS.

Problemis very few sites open when I surf the net. Only google, gmail,Orkutand few others...Not even yahoo! opens. very few link of google searchresults open.. & I get the msg.." Website found waiting for reply"
but when I use my friend's laptop all sites open quite easily...

My modem straight away connects to my Laptop.
And my modem is Not functioning as router.
I'm using Norton Internet Security 2007.

Andwhen I checked the properties of "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" in localarea network properties, there are two internet Protocol ( Version 6& Version 4)
when I clicked the properties of ver. 6 I got following message..
" InOrder to configure TCP/IP u will have to Install & enable a networkadapter card !"
and when I clicked ver. 4 properties, it was set to
" Obtain DNS server address automatically.."

Please help me out.

    i tried the commands but...
    only one command ran...the 2nd one (/renew)
In rest of the 3 i got following message...
    "The requested operation requires elevation"

as per disabling the Norton, I in fact removed Norton with norton removal tool...and tried operating net without it...but that was of no use so i reinstalled it..

Try This,

Go to the command line and while connected to your modem type the following:

(Wait for each command to finish)

c:> ipconfig /release
c:> ipconfig /renew
c:> ipconfig /flushdns
c:> ipconfig /registerdns

Then attempt to browse one of the sites you were having trouble with.

If that does not fix the problem, then you will need to disable Norton Internet Security temporarily to see if that is causing your problems.

I'll check back to see how you made out.

Let me know how you made out.

    ok, let's try this.

    At the command line type:

    Default Server: UnKnown
    Address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

    >Type the name of the website you cannot get to (

You should get something like this as a return:

    Non-authoritative answer:

Can you copy and paste this results into a reply here.

This might take a little bit to narrow down what the issue is. Hope you don't mind.

I'll be around tonight and checking in.

Why did you rate this as Inappropriate? This rating has you saying "The solution has nothing to do with the problem”.

    This is Basic connection troubleshooting.

I am trying to figure out if you’re having problems resolving DNS names. If you can resolve the DNS to an IP address, then it means we can take DNS out of the list of potential problems.

If it does not resolve the IP Address of the site, then you have a DNS Server issue. Your connection provider with then have to assist you.

    Information on NSLOOKUP

I did state in my last post that this issue might take some time to narrow down and find the issue/solution. There are too many variables when troubleshooting connection issues and there are very few "Quick Fixes"

I wish you the best in your quest to fix your issue.

Your rating is incorrect. Lesson learned on my part.

HP Pavilion dv6000 OS(s)

The product key on the label on the bottom of the laptop will only work for the version of Windows that was installed on that laptop.
You can purchase an upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate and to use in conjunction with the existing Vista Home Premium.

Problem in opening the links !

Do you use a router, or are you connecting the modem straight to the laptop?

Does the modem have multiple plugs for computers to plug into (if so, it is functioning as a router as well.?

Do you have any firewall/internet security software installed?

My guess without the above information would be that it is a problem with your DNS setting. Open "Network Connections" and right click on your "Local area connection" and go to properties. Click on the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP" entry and click properties. Be sure that it is set up to "Obtain DNS server address automatically"
