Question about Heating & Cooling
So my ac keeps shutting off, this is the third time in 3 weeks, the first two times we called someone out to fix it, but the guy our landlord calls takes like 5 days to come out here everyday he claims he will be out that day and I just want to fix it my self, I checked the breakers switched them back and forth unplugged and plugged it back in, but thats all I know to do, I dont have any experience with this, but hopefully someone can tell me how, I checked for an on/off switch on the unit but there is not one, I also need to mention that I tried to turn the heat on and nothing happened. so to sum it up neither heat or a/c works and I want someone to give me steps on how to fix it
If the furnace wont work, neither will the ac. There should be a box by the outside unit. Open and pull the disconect out. Thats the switch. If ac is blowing fuses, its just to hard to say, but id look at the electrical part. Mice love it their andwill chew wires. Its sounds like a short, but worse case the ac compressor is locking up. This can be solved with a hardstart kit. The condenser fan may be shot as well, or by itself. Its possible you have a bad duel capacitor, but that usally wont let it start at all. If its a freon issue, this will kick the unit out, but not trip breakers. Be sure the coil drain on top of furnace is clear, or whater could back up and get in the electronics of the furnace, blowing the furnace fuse, not the ac. Id get a bettter tech out there and just take it off the rent. Your landlords guy should have this figured on the first try. But if you have no electrical experience, leave it be. The ac is220 volts, and mi nimum of 20 amps.

SOURCE: Rudd Furnace does not heat after temperature falls below thermostat setting. After the furnace is off for sometime, it will restart and work fine for a few days and then will not restart again.
The thermostat could also be causing this instead the furnace electronics.

check your condesate trap. if its blocked it could be causing a pressure issue within your heat exchanger. if its blocked clear it and try to recycle the unit
