Basic stitch formation requires the needle to be close enough to the hook for the rotating tip of the hook to pick up the thread. Start with a new needle remove the needle plate and bobbin basket. Inspect your bobbin basket for damage and that it had not slipped out of position in relation to the cushion spring at the lower right side of the hook (5:00 position). Sometimes the cushion spring gets bent and allows the bobbin basket to rotate inside the hook. When this happens the needle may penetrate the bobbin basket and will make a loud noise and not sew. There needs to be about .5 mm of clearance between the bobbin basket and cushion spring to allow a double thread to pass between the gap. Observe if this eliminates the noise. Observe it the tip of the hook passes behind the needle and above the eye of the needle on both sides of the widest Zig Zag stitch. The needle should not bend when the hook passes behind it. Other critical functions to the operation are the timing of the take up lever, feed dogs and clearances. I would suggest taking it in for service if a new needle does not solve the problem.

The loud sound suggests that the moving needle and the moving parts of the bobbin system are no longer timed properly>

If this is the case you cannot fix it yourself and I can"t tell you how to do it

A qualified technician can do it>

Sorry I cannot be more help but my layman knowledge does not cover that!!!!!!

Needle not picking up bobbin thread and it makes funny loud noise

Sometimes both symptoms are a result of a bent, dull, or damaged needle. Try installing a brand new needle.

If it is still not picking up the bobbin thread and making a noise, take it for service. It most likely has a needle/hook timing issue and the noise could be the needle making contact with the needleplate or in the bobbin area. Continued use could cause the needle to break and flying pieces of needle, in most cases, are not a good thing.

I have a brother ls-2150 I can't pick cotton up from the bobbin

Try installing a brand new needle (verify it is installed correctly). If it still does not pick up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time, requiring service.

My Bernette 715 isn't picking up the bobbin thread and is getting jammed. Any ideas what's wrong?

First thing to always try: Install a brand new needle. A dull, worn, or bent needle will cause great frustration. It is also the least expensive resolution to most problems.

Second: Remove all the threads. RAISE the presser foot. Rethread from the beginning making sure it is threaded correctly.
Pull up the bobbin thread before beginning to stitch and hold the thread tails in the left hand while slowly taking the first few stitches:

If still having issues with not pulling up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time.

JUKI BOBBIN THREAD WILL NOT FEED

Most machines require that the bobbin in the case unspool in a certain direction its considered common knowledge I guess because it doesn't seem to be written in the text of manuals... but is indicated in the photos. make sure it's unspooling correctly.

Secondly. Please make sure you have the correct needle for your machine. Some machines do not use a 15x1 (most common needle) Let me show you. (see photo below) Clearly the 241x1 won't fit into your machine. BUT the 15x1 will go into the machine that requires the 20x1.... and the result is it won't pick up the bobbin thread.

Start there. Then check your timing.

try cleaning under the needle plate & in bobbin area for loose threads or lint
try using a new needle--make sure the needle is inserted correctly in the needle holder
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin
if you try all these suggestions & the machine still won't pick up the bobbin thread then it's possible that the machine is out of time & would have to be retimed at a sewing machine shop

Needle won't pick up bobbin thread

check to make sure that the needle was put into the needle holder correctly
all the way up into the needle holder--flat side of the needle to the back side of the machine
if the machine still doesn't up the bobbin thread then
it's possible that when the needle broke that it caused the machine to go out of time which means it has to be retime at a sewing machine shop

Have you tried a new needle?

If re-threading, changing the brand of thread, etc. does not work, then it's likely your machine is out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.
