WinXP SP2 not detecting bluetooth device

By AngelaK on Nov 14, 2007

I have an Acer Travelmate 5620 notebook. It originally came with Windows Vista loaded. The LED buttons for W/LAN and Bluetooth worked fine and the bluetooth device appeared in my Device Manager. I even connected my cellphone successfully via bluetooth.

After formatting and installing Windows XP with SP2, neither LED button works, my bluetooth device is not detected (it does not appear under device manager and I have no 'unknown device' listed here either). I've installed the latest Widcomm bluetooth software that I got from the Acer support site specifically for this notebook and WinXP, but when I click the blue/red icon in the taskbar, all I get is 'no bluetooth devices'. I know I have the hardware as it used to work before I formatted!!! I've spent hours, trying all kinds of tweaks and software. There is nothing in my Bios that allows me to enable/disable devices.

I've come across other threads of people with the same kind of problem (WinXP SP2 not detecting integrated bluetooth), but no solution yet. I think that if I can get those 2 buttons working, then I'd be able to at least turn the bluetooth device 'on' so that windows would detect it and I could point it to the drivers...

Also, the ePowerManagement does not work with dot net framework 2.0+ installed (all features are disabled). That worked fine with Dot Net Framework 1.1, but I need 2.0 installed (else SQL Server 2005 doesn't install....). ePower Management used to allow me to enable my bluetooth, then it worked 100%.

Please, anyone who can help, I'd be most grateful.

- I tried those right from the start
They install the Bluetooth Bus Enumerator. But complain during install that no bluetooth device could be detected. I've reinstalled I don't know how many times already, redownloaded to make sure I've got the latest versions (the Vista ones won't let you install, I've tried those even out of sheer desparation.

But I think I may have just found the solution :-)
I came across a post a few minutes ago on another site saying I should install the Acer Launch Manager before installing the bluetooth drivers. Well, I uninstalled anything resembling bluetooth, rebooted. Installed Launch Mananger 1 from the Acer site. Rebooted just to be safe. Now my LED buttons (Bluetooth and W/LAN) both work. The bluetooth drivers installed and detected the bluetooth device. I've even got my phone connected now :-) Seems you have to do this in that specific order else the bluetooth doesn't work... I've had Launch Manager installed before with no success, but only after the bluetooth drivers were already installed and not working...

So thank you for your help. All is finally 100%

- what has happened is the windows vista drivers are not right for the win xp Operating system so at that site you will need any drivers for other items that aren't working now also
