check your ignition switch, pull the plug off the back, look for rusted or corroded connections, and burned connections,a new ign switch may be needed

If the blades turn freely then you are going to have to replace the pto or ignition switch, take the drive belt off, does the pto work?,if not,it is electrical, check switch then pto, then pto safety switch

On the back of the PTO switch there should be a gray wire. Disconnect it and test.

SOURCE: When I engage the front PTO the engine dies.

There is somthing in the PTO that is binding up. I am assuming the PTO is for the mower blades. The belt(s) could be binding up, not on the pulleys, etc. The blades should turn by hand easily.

SOURCE: Riding mower stalls when PTO is engaged.

check the kill switch and the wire it could be that a small piece of the covering came off and is grounding to the deck or frame there by killing the engine the jerkink of the mower maybe whats causing the wire to come into contact with metal..good luck

JD X595 4x4 mower - Starts OK, BUT, as soon as the brake is released, the motor cuts out.

I would try bypassing the seat switch and the brake switch. Do this one at a time to determine if the switch is bad. Also buy some Sta-bil fuel stabilizer and gel remover. I recommend this for any seasonal equipment. Often the engine is not getting enough fuel and will stall when the pto is engaged. Sta-bil often rectifies this problem.

LX279 dies as soon as you let off brake

This sounds like a safety switch on brake linkage. Just as there is a safety switch on seats of riding mowers, there is also safety switches for brakes, pto, etc. I would look for switch on brake linkage and test with a multimeter for continuity. Hope this helps.

check the "kill switch" they are usually located in the seating area. it senses for pressure or seat angle and will kill the mower if nobody is sitting on the mower. Good Luck

Eletric PTO is not working

The PTO draws a pretty good current, so a weak or loose contact in the switch, or in the connections on the back of the switch, could cause this overheating. But it could also happen if the PTO clutch itself or the wiring to it has a short. If the mower's still under warranty, get the dealer to diagnose and fix it. If not, then I'd measure the resistance of the PTO clutch - should be about 2 ohms - and make sure the wiring to it isn't shorted. If all that is OK, then just replace the PTO switch and any melted connectors and wiring. Good luck!
