How to treat hematomas on the legs

Depending on the severity and location of the hematoma, a veterinarian may treat it differently. A small hematoma can be drained, but there is a high risk that they will fill again within a few days. In many cases, surgery under anesthesia may be recommended to drain the blood, remove any clots, and suture across the area so that there is no space for blood to gather. A drain may be implanted for a couple weeks to keep the area from filling again. With prompt treatment, a hematoma is unlikely to return and there should be little damage.

I fear anesthesia for undergoing surgery? Any alternatives?

Modern day anesthesia is much safer and, as a registered nurse, I personally do not fear it. Consider counseling and avoid scare stories. If you are having an extremity operated on, such as a knee or foot, you can stay awake and have a nerve block done as an alternative.

Do you get put to sleep when you have corrective eye laser surgery? I am really worried about freaking out if I have to stay awake.

Anesthesia is not necessary for eye surgery which is just a quick procedure. If you are very anxious, you can take some oral sedation just to relax you but you need to be awake during the process.
