I have a Ryobi bench grinder and the grinding belt keeps slipping to one side have tightened to maximum and the belt says its for a Ryobi


it is slipping to one side because the pulley on the end is not aligned correctly
on the adjuster arm that holds the front pulley there is a lever or knob that you use to adjust alignment ( instructions in user manual) find that adjustment and slowly move it while the belt is running
you will see the belt running position change to you get it properly aligned
each belt regardless of ryobi or generic will need adjustment after fitting

Inspection

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced immediately.


Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Rotate the auto tensioner clockwise to release tension, then remove the drive belt.

To install:
  1. Install drive belt (A). Route the belt over the components in the following order: Crankshaft pulley - A/C pulley - idler pulley - generator pulley - water pump pulley - P/S pump pulley - tensioner pulley.
  2. Rotate auto tensioner arm in the counter-clockwise moving auto tensioner pulley bolt with wrench.
  3. After putting belt on auto tensioner pulley, release the auto tensioner pulley slowly.

How simple is it to change a alternator belt on subaru svx?


  1. Removing the Serpentine Belt
    • 1 Park your Subaru on a level surface and open the hood.
    • 2 Disconnect the ground (black) battery cable using a wrench. This will prevent the cooling fan from activating.
    • 3 Locate the serpentine belt routing diagram in your engine compartment and compare it to the actual routing of the installed belt. Make sure the routing on the label matches the actual routing. If they do not match or there is no label, note the actual routing on a piece of paper for later reference.
    • 4 Locate the belt tensioner pulley on your Subaru model. If the tensioner is equipped with a squared hole, use a large breaker bar with a 1/2-inch (13 mm) drive. Otherwise, use a ratchet and socket of the proper size on the tensioner pulley center bolt.
    • 5 Rotate the tensioner pulley away from the belt to release the belt tension.
    • 6 Pull the belt off of one of the pulleys and slowly release the tensioner pulley back into position. Do not let the tensioner pulley snap back or you may damage an internal component.
    • 7 Finish removing the serpentine belt from the rest of the pulleys and the engine compartment.
    Installing the New Serpentine Belt
    • 1 Match the old belt to the new one and make sure they are of the same length and configuration. It is normal for the new belt to be slightly shorter since the old one has been stretched through use.
    • 2 Route the new serpentine belt through all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. Use the diagram on the engine compartment or your notes, as a reference, to properly route the belt.
    • 3 Insert the large breaker bar into the square hole or the ratchet and socket into the tensioner pulley center bolt.
    • 4 Rotate the tensioner pulley in the same direction you did to release the belt tension.
    • 5 Slide the serpentine belt onto the tensioner pulley.
    • 6 Release the tensioner pulley back into position.
    • 7 Look at all the pulleys and make sure the serpentine belt is properly seated on each one. Otherwise, release the belt tension and adjust the belt.
    • 8 Connect the ground (black) battery cable using the wrench.

Serpentine belt diagram for a 2003 Chevy unpalatable 4.3


Pop the hood of the car and locate the serpentine belt routing diagram. The diagram on the 2003 Chevrolet Impala is on top of the fan shroud. The diagram will be a picture of all of the accessory pulleys and how the serpentine belt is routed among the pulleys. This diagram will give you the exact direction for routing the new belt onto the pulleys. If you cannot find a serpentine belt routing diagram, take a notepad and pen and draw out the exact routing diagram of the old belt across the pulleys.

  • 2 Locate the serpentine belt tensioner. It is located below the alternator on the left front side of the engine. The tensioner on the 3.4 liter, 3.5 liter and the 3.9 liter engines will require a 3/8 ratchet to release the belt tensioner. The 3.8 liter engine will require a ratchet and a 15 mm socket for the belt tensioner. Rotate the belt tensioner clockwise to loosen and remove the belt from the belt tensioner pulley.
  • 3 Slide the old belt from the belt tensioner pulley. Remove the belt from the remaining pulleys and pull the belt from the engine compartment.
  • 4 Route the new belt across the crankshaft pulley first. The crankshaft pulley is the big pulley on the bottom of the engine in the center. Then route the serpentine belt across the remaining pulleys as directed by the serpentine belt routing diagram. Leave the belt tensioner pulley for last.
  • 5 Rotate the belt tensioner clockwise again to relieve the tension and slide the new belt across the top of the belt tensioner pulley. Release the belt tensioner and the belt will tighten up as the tensioner applies pressure to the belt. Make sure the new belt is properly seated in all the pulleys.
  • 6 Crank the engine and inspect the belt again to make sure that it stays seated in the pulleys.

    Metric sockets
    Serpentine belt

    1 Open the hood and inspect the flat surface on top of the plastic fan shroud for the belt routing diagram. Follow the diagram instructions to route the new belt.

    2 Locate the serpentine belt self-adjusting tensioner on the front of the engine block. The tensioner has a pulley on the bottom of the tensioner arm, which the belt travels under. The tensioner can only be rotated from the bolt that secures the pulley to the tensioner arm.

    3 Rotate the tensioner in a clockwise motion with a metric socket and the breaker bar to loosen the tension from the belt. Then, pull the belt off the top of the tensioner pulley. Release the tensioner pulley and pull the breaker bar off the pulley bolt.

    4 Pull the belt out of the accessory pulleys. Then, slide the belt around each fan blade and out of the engine bay. Rotate each fan blade to the top side of the engine to get the belt around each fan blade.

    5 Match both the new belt and the old belt together to make sure that the new belt is the correct size. Then, route the new belt around each fan blade and around the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley is the big pulley at the very bottom of the engine.

    6 Follow the routing directions from the belt routing diagram to install the new belt around the other accessory pulleys. Once the belt has been routed around all of the pulleys, look over the belt and make sure that it is secure inside all of the pulleys.

    7 Crank the 1998 Dodge Caravan and let the motor run for about 15 seconds. This will finish seating the ridges of the new belt into the grooves of each accessory pulley.

    8 Shut the motor off and close the hood.

    I need an Idler pulley or the pulley that runs air conditioner belt as well as the belt for the power steering

    If your idler pulley is bad then unbolt it and while you're at it replace the power steering belt.

    REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Because serpentine belts use a spring loaded tensioner for adjustment, belt replacement tends to be somewhat easier than it used to be on engines where accessories were pivoted and bolted in place for tension adjustment. Basically, all belt replacement involves is to pivot the tensioner to loosen the belt, then slide the belt off of the pulleys. The two most important points are to pay CLOSE attention to the proper belt routing (since serpentine belts tend to be "snaked'' all different ways through the pulleys) and to make sure the V-ribs are properly seated in all the pulleys. Although belt routing diagrams have been included in this section, the first places you should check for proper belt routing are the labels in your engine compartment. These should include a belt routing diagram which may reflect changes made during a production run.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety. This will help assure that no one mistakenly cranks the engine over with your hands between the pulleys, and that the cooling fan cannot activate while servicing the belt(s). NOTE: Take a good look at the installed belt and make a note of the routing. Before removing the belt, make sure the routing matches that of the belt routing label or one of the diagrams in this book. If for some reason a diagram does not match (you may not have the original engine or it may have been modified), carefully note the changes on a piece of paper.
    2. For tensioners equipped with a 1⁄2 in. (13mm) square hole, insert the drive end of a large breaker bar into the hole. Use the breaker bar to pivot the tensioner away from the drive belt. For tensioners not equipped with this hole, use the proper-sized socket and breaker bar (or a large handled wrench) on the tensioner idler pulley center bolt to pivot the tensioner away from the belt. This will loosen the belt sufficiently that it can be pulled off of one or more of the pulleys. It is usually easiest to carefully pull the belt out from underneath the tensioner pulley itself.
    3. Once the belt is off one of the pulleys, gently pivot the tensioner back into position. DO NOT allow the tensioner to snap back, as this could damage the tensioner's internal parts.
    4. Now finish removing the belt from the other pulleys and remove it from the engine. To install:
    5. While referring to the proper routing diagram (which you identified earlier), begin to route the belt over the pulleys, leaving whichever pulley you first released it from for last.
    6. Once the belt is mostly in place, carefully pivot the tensioner and position the belt over the final pulley. As you begin to allow the tensioner back into contact with the belt, run your hand around the pulleys and make sure the belt is properly seated in the ribs. If not, release the tension and seat the belt.
    7. Once the belt is installed, take another look at all the pulleys to double check your installation.
    8. Connect the negative battery cable, then start and run the engine to check belt operation.
    9. Once the engine has reached normal operating temperature, turn the ignition OFF and check that the belt tensioner arrow is within the proper adjustment range. Fig. 1: Often the underhood label will display the serpentine drive belt routing 88231p43.gif

    Hi i have a craftman bench 10 inch bandsaw that has blade drif


    The problem could be one of two things. The tires could be worn or glazed with rosin. Try cleaning the tires with mineral spirits to remove the build-up. The other possibility is that the pulleys are out of alignment. To check this, put a straight edge across the face of the lower pulley and see if squares with the upper pulley, if it doesn't, loosen the set screw on the upper pulley and adjust accordingly

    It sounds like the pulley is not adjusted correctly. This is causing the belt to move on you. Carefully inspect and adjust the pulley so it is square and flat. Use a straight edge.
