Question about Pioneer DEH-P2900MP CD Receiver /AM/FM/MP3/ CD Player

Open Question

HU Powers off when turning ignition on or open door

I have just installed this unit and when connecting it up with the ignition off and the key out, the unit powered up and I was able to complete the initial setup. However, the unit stayed on until I either put the key into the ignition or opened a door. This was with red to red and yellow to yellow From looking around various forums do I just need to reverse the red and yellow cables and run and wire to the 12v cigarette lighter? If I switch the wires red to yellow and yellow to red, the unit does not power up at all. I would be grateful to hear if anyone else has come across this problem. BTW this is being installed in an 05 Smart Forfour. Thanks!

SOURCE: I just bought a 7300bt

The red wire definitely has to be connected to a power source for the radio to work. Connecting it to the ignition wire is the best way to do it. The yellow wire is for memory and has to go to a constant power source to retain memory.

My car is draining battery even with ignition and light off

That means that you have a parasitic drain, that can be caused by a short or by a defective device.

First try to understand if there is a parasitic drain.

Once you exclude the drain, replace the battery, a battery with shorted cells can cause the drain.

To measure drainage remove ignition key, connect the amp meter between the battery positive wire connector and positive terminal.A couple of milliamps drainage is normal, and is caused by instruments, car stereo memory, ECU etc.
Start removing more fuses , and open the wiring at different points , trying to locate the problem.
Remove the fuses and see if you have drain by connecting a meter to read amps on battery, if you have drain with no fuse, then the problem is insulated to wiring harness before the fuse, with something shorted between the battery and the fuseblock.
Also check car stereo and car amp HU, the HU can keep a unit on when the ignition key is off, causing drainage.

Radio dont turn off when key turn off .........what im doing wrong?

Did you recently install/have it installed and has it ever worked correctly?

What it sounds like is that the 12v constant and 12v switched/ignition wires may be connected in reverse. Normally the constant is what powers the memory of the radio so you don't have to enter your settings/presets every time you turn it on. The switched/ignition is what actually powers on/off the unit when you turn the car on/off. If these are switched the settings will be forgotten every time the car is turned off and the unit will stay on when the car is off.

You can check your wiring with a multimeter. With the car off, find what is supposed to be the constant, put the positive lead from the meter to that and the negative to ground (can be any metal in the dash). It should read 12v or just under. Now do the same with the switched/ignition wire. With the key off there should be no reading. When the key is turned on you should get a reading of 12v or just under.

If its not that then it would most likely be something wrong with the unit itself, which would have to be looked at by a technician from the manufacturer.

There is also a small chance it could be something with the vehicles door switch. Some cars will leave the radio on, after the car is turned off, until the door is open. If the door switch has shorted out/gone bad it could keep the radio powered on. Without knowing the make and model of the car it would be difficult for me to describe where the door switch can be found.

I hope this helps

'04 Chrysler Pacifica battery won't hold a charge for long. Sometimes it will be fine for months and then not start. Other times it won't last more than a day. I was thinking it must be a parasitic drain...

The firmware has nothing to do with drainage, unless the unit is factory defective.

I have the same problem with My HU of over heating especially during the hot days of summer. I am gonna try to install a pc fan(square one's)underneath the HU to cool it doqn a bit. Im also gonna run a power wire to the radio power wire so the fan turns on when i turn on the radio on. I want to see if the HU is still overheating. My HU overheats even when just sitting in the car.

Door Opens then closes and Powers Off

Try holding down BUTTON [5], then press the RESET button (you'll need a ballpen between the AUTO and SCRL buttons). This worked on the KDC-MP825 (very similar to the MPV8025) when my wife had the same problem this month.

Stays on even if HU (CDA-9833) is off

It is possible that the SIR unit stays powered as long as the red wire is powered, since it is normally connected to a switched source. To test this, disconnect the red wire or move it to a switched source (you could even add a switch on the wire and flip it manually). If the battery stays healthy after that, then the red wire being constantly powered is the problem. Otherwise, it is possible there is a problem with the Ai-NET cable connected to the SIR unit.
