It sounds very much like your battery is discharged, and does not have enough charge left to turn your engine over (the clicking noise is your solenoid trying to engage the starter, but it is not getting enough power to do so). The fact that your various little lights work does not indicate that you have nearly enough of a charge in the battery to start the car.

I think that if you have your battery charged (or replaced, if necessary), that will solve your problem. You might take the battery to Autozone or a place like it and have them check it for taking a charge (I don't think that charge for that).

Hope this helps you.

SOURCE: I have a 1998 BMW

Do you have an owner's handbook? What happens is that they use a rod that looks like a big screw. If that track has been damaged in any way, it can bind and may require excessive force to close. The manual indicates that some resistance is felt at the halfway point and that if if triggers it to retract, to hold the button forward. If this does not work, I would push with my hand while holding the button til it is closed. The headliner may have to be removed to gain axcess to be repaired. Let me know on the owner's handbook and what you find with the sunroof.

Changed roof on vw beetle 05 roof put on 06 beetle now bleeps when driving

You need to have a shop with VagCom scanner check it. It can talk to the top computer module and read faults. This system has numerous micro switches and contacts. You will spend lots of wasted time trying to figure it out with out the scan tool information.

Electric roof not working on bmwz3 tried it with ignition on our of gear and foot on break worked two days ago

Turn the key forward to the spot just before cranking, emergency break on, windows down (slightly or all the way, no difference), foot on break, roof unlatched and pushed back slightly. Once you push the roof up slightly, it should trigger a microswitch that allows the motor to turn on. If you listen closely, you can hear it. Can you hear the motor turning? If not, check the fuse and any microswitches. If they check good it could be the "motor." I say "motor" like that because its actually a pump to a hydraulic system. It sits in the trunk on the left wheel well. Its very easy to replace.
If you do hear the motor, go to the trunk and look at the system on the left wheel well. There is a hydraulic reservoir under the pump. If you cant see any fluid in there, that is your problem. To fill it, turn the T-handle on the pump counterclockwise. This will depressurize the system and also allow you to manually operate the roof. Next to the T-handle is a cap that requires an allen wrench to remove. Remove it and fill to the little dot inside a circle with hydraulic fluid. This can be a little trick to reach; I used a turkey baster!! After filling to appropriate level, put cap back on and then turn T-handle clockwise and secure it. Now operate the roof a few times with the button to build up some pressure. Now your roof should be operating properly!!

The engine wont turn over. The battery is good.We replaced the stater and ignition switch. The fuel pump seams to be working.

If its a manual trans put it in a high gear rock it back and forward you should see the engine turning if its automatic then put a socket with a long bar on the large nut on the crankshaft pully try turning the engine with it if it turns keep turning until the you get it one full turn if it wont turn one way try the other way. If it wont move at all the engine is most likely seized if it moves there is a few things can cause this. First check the timing belt or chain is not broken or slipped. It may have dropped a valve to check remove the rocker cover and check the valves are ok. Get back to me when you have tried this and you still have the problem I will try to help further. Cheers

1997 BMW 328i Convertable Top wont go up or down Replaced atomatic locking fex rods at windshield locking device . what next should I check

Check the electric motors at that are located underneath the fabric in the trunk of the car. One is behind the left tail light the other underneath the roof hold.

First open them up if the gears are exposed it means that they are not engaged. To re engage simply push them back into place.

Before re engaging manually bring up the roof and then press the roof sequence button.

To make sure that the roof electric motors are functioning before re engaging let someone press the button and check that the gears move, While disengaged they will only move for about 5 to 10 seconds.

Convertible top will not retrack

Hi Stan

First of all the roof is not even soppose to operate while the trunk is open - So there is the first problem Ive been involved with BMW's for a long time and this is the first Ive heard of a roof opening while the trunk is open. There is a built in feature that tells the car not to open the roof if the trunk is open and the other way roung while the roog lid is open the trunk cant open.

The reason the roof is not working anymore as soon as there is stress on the roof the electric motors(One operates the roof and the other operates the roof lid)  disengages, You said that the roof still worked but the lid did not so probably only the one motor disengaged. So what you have to do is open the trunk on the left hand side right behind the tail light pull away the material and simply just push the electric motor into place. that should fix your problem.

It may happen that the two motors have become out of sync, Disengage both electric motors manualy put the roof away engage the motors and that should put the roof and lid back into sync.

Top wont let back or close

Inside your trunk on the left hand side there are two electric motors one drives the rooof lid and the other drives the roof, they can be engaged and disengaged independantly by small steel levers(THESE ARE LOCATED UNDER THE MATERIAL). once disengaged check if they work by standing and checking them while someone presses the roof button for you.

If they work and everything is fine you need to engage and disengage until they are in sync, When the roof lid is open you will also notice a small button under the roof lid catches this button allows the back part of the roof to drop and to tell the car that the roof lid is closed and it is now safe to let opne the trunk.

My S Reg 323i electric roof.

Ive had the same problem on my car. If you open the trunk and pull away the material covering on the left hand side you will find two electric motors similar to the ones that winds the windows these motors have to be in exact sync for the whole system to work fine.

The one drives the lid and the other one drives the roof. You can engage and disengage the motors to get the roof in sync and working perfectly. Also check that when the lid closes it engages a button on the left that allowes the roof to close aver the lid after the lid has closed this button also tells the car that the roof lid is closed and it is ok to let the trunk be opened.

I also suggest that you treat the roof mechanism with some penetrating oil.
