LRA how to convert in tonage so 10 LRA How many ton and 145 LRA Copland scroll compressor tonage value pleas give me answer

LRA on the data tag stands for "locked rotor amps" and has nothing to do with tonnage. In the model # there should be a number to use. And divide that # by 12 (12,000 btu/ton). So if I had a PFG24H200 it would be the "24"and a 2 ton unit

My freezer has a bad EMBRACO compressor part # EGZ80HLP. Will an EGZS80HLP replace it ?

The answer to your actual question is--- check your LRA on compressor plate. If voltage hp and LRA are the same then yes. Also if you ohm the terminals on compressor place lead on any terminal and place other lead on grounded surface on cabinet. The will let you know if you a grounded compressor. If none of terminals lead to ground then it could possibly be you relay. If any more info is needed just ask. Thanks Logan

Hello bill willliams here i have a client witjh a reach in cooler the compessor in kickingf off an on every 3 to 4 sec off and on off an on what could be the problem

Most likely the PTC relay and run capacitor. However there is a value on the side of the compressor label that is LRA (locked rotor amperage) followed by and amp value between 14.7 amps and 21.9 amps for a 1/3 hp compressor. If the unit is drawing that LRA amperage and the compressor is not starting then the compressor is bad.

As a tech before making that change the compressor decision I wil ALWAYS install a new PTC relay / Klixon thermal-overload AND a run capacitor. IF after changing those 3 components the compressor is still drawing LRA amperage the compressor has to be changed.

With the every 3 - 4 seconds cycling.. and the thermal overload is not kicking off for around 4 to 5 minutes I really would suspect both the run capacitor and the PTC relay

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

What is the difrent between LRA and BTU ?

One really has not much to do with the other directly

BTU - British Thermal Unit.- A heat measuring unit. IE:12,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit.) The amount of heat required to melt one ton of ice.

LRA - Lock Rotor Ampere-LRA is nothing but locked rotor current , generally it is located on compressors name plate, when ever pistons locked at a particular position the rotor does not move further at the time rotor draws large current, that current is located on name plate, by seeing that LRA we can know compressor rotor was locked

Compressor cycles

Could be but I figure if its just 15 amp thats its pulling thaT isnt LRA. Especially if its over 1 HP or 1 ton (unless its 220V) Try the start components before deciding the compressor is out. Look at my tips and tricks for a compressor check out.

A hum followed by a click sound is an indication of a failure at the compressor. Possibly the compressor motor has gone into a locked rotor condition. A locked rotor condition can be checked using an ammeter. The name plate on the compressor will have a rating after LRA. If the ammeter reading is equal to the LRA rating the compressor is done. If it is a reading of about 80% of the LRA (locked rotor amperage) it is possible that a relay or capacitor has failed which is replaceable.
