Question about BSA Optics

2 Answers

I have a BSA sweet 17, 2X7X35 all The black paint on the Tube has turned really sticky, when you touch the scope the paint gets all over your hand.

I tried to wipe it off with isopropyl alcohol. It turned the rag black, now the rag and scope is really sticky.I have over 15 scopes and this is the only one that I have had any problem with and it is the only BSA. Opticts are good , only the paint job is bad. Need helpThe scope is mounted on a Ruger 10/22 whitch i I converted to a -17 cal MACH II. The last time I fired the gun was at least 5 years ago. At that time I noticed the scope to be a little tacky(sticky). I put the gun in the safe until I pulled it out Saturday 18 April 2015. It is really terrible.

The coating that BSA used on their scopes reacts badly with certain airborne oils and softens rubs off and looks scabby
Only thing to do is to rub the rest of the coating off with high acetone nail polish remover

To raise the point of impact, turn the elevation screw counterclockwise. To shift left, turn windage screw clockwise. If you raise the horizontal cross hair you will lower the point of impact of the bullet. If you move the vertical cross hair to the right the shot placement will go to the left. Make small adjustments tap the scope with a screwdriver handle to give it a shock, not to hard to help move the cross hairs and try to bore sight first. Hope this helps Fix ya up.

Not really a problem. Just looking for a manual so I understand how all of the adjustment functions work.

Have you tried contacting BSA directly? I searched for an on-line manual which you may have also.
I didn't have any luck, but I do know they provide on-line manuals for many of thier products.
E-mail them from the link provided below and you should get what you need.

Here is the direct link to thier customer service contact info.

The rubber coating is tacky to the touch, and the O-ring in the eye piece has rolled out. This is on a BSA Contender 6x24x50.

Unfortunately this sounds like the scope coating was exposed to some petroleum based product.

Hand or Suntan lotions, bug repellants or certain types of cleaning solutions.. even the vapors from them can cause rubber to destabilize.
