Question about Building Materials

3 Answers

I have a Craftsman 41A4315-6 garage door opener. It started stopping and reversing in both the up and down mode. I checked the sensors and one was green and the other yellow.

I replaced the sensors and I get the same result. one green and the other yellow. Does this mean I have a bad control board? I put the sensors right up to each other and they sill show the same result. I have released the quick disconnect and the motor does the same thing. UPDATE: The RPM sensor board fixed the issue

Try jumping the connection of the opener where the sensors attach. if the opener works when jumped, then it may be a broken wiring issue. if still does not work, then it is not the sensors.

If you had bad sensors the light bulb would be flashing.. The sensors only control the door going down.. The door will always go up. If it is going up or down only 6 to twelve inches its a bad rpm board.

Anytime the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

If the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flickering. If they aren't lit tweak them a bit. If they both won't come on you have a bad sensor or the wiring leading to it.

If the main light doesn't flash 10 times you can increase the 'down force' which is a control on the rear of the motor unit. Increase this just a bit and try.

Door starts and stops. I have: Adjusted down force controls still starts reverses then stops checked door sensors OK checked motor OK

If the main light flashes 10 times when the opener reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flashing. Check the small LED on the back of the opener. If it is flashing 5 times and pausing and then repeating you most likely have a bad RPM sensor board which is a small printed circuit board near the front of the motor.

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. One may have been bumped so that they no longer point at one another. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flickering. If this isn't the case you might need to increase the down force a little. The control is on the back panel near where all those white wires go. Increase it about 1/4 turn and try.

Problem with Garage Door - Stopping and Starting

If the main light is flashing 10 times when the door reverses it is a sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is lit and not flashing ever so slightly. The sensors must be pointed at one another for both lights to be on.

Garage door won't close.

After replacing the worm gear and main drive gear on my Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener I found that my door moved about 4 inches stopped and reversed the same distance. I checked all the settings and everything seems OK. What fixed the problem was I released the two allen set screws on the end of the motor shaft and pulled tha motor shaft toward me. When I replaced the black plastic cap that looks like a pill cap top on the end of the shaft this corrected the depth setting that cap rotated through the RPM sensor. I set the limit settings (up and down) on the side of the opener and reset the force pots marked (KC) to mid range.
the door now works. I hope this helps. I also checked and eliminated the door sensors by putting a box in the beem this inhibited any movemnet at all, so I knew it wasn't the door sensors as there was at least 4 incheds of movement prior to the box and nothing with the box.
