Question about Dewalt Planer (DW734)

About halfway thru a board, the pressure releases and the cutting bars raise up. we have tightened everything on the locking bar but it still does the same thing.

When a board goes thru the cutting bars raise up. we have checked out and tightened the locking bar. everything seems fine.


Educated guess that the adjustment screw (knob) is not locked OR the screw shaft is worn on the top/bottom allowing the gear to jump off the screw thread. Does it shake when the planner is off? A question is Is the thickness indicator still showing the original setting?
From another site: Once the height is set, remember to push the black bar back down to lock the cutting head in place.

Raising handle bars


Right in the center of the handle bars you will find a nut ( usually allen key) that is in line with the tube going down/attached to the fork of the bicycle. Loosen this nut and unscrew it for about 5mm - don't remove it completely. Take a mallet and hit the nut firmly on its head to force it back the 5 mm unscrewed. It should release the tapered lock inside the tube and the handles can be adjusted. If it is still stuck, unscrew the nut more and repeat the process. After adjustment tighten the nut firmly, while holding the handles in position. It will lock again as it is getting tightened. Make sure it is secure by "clamping" the front wheel between your legs while trying to move the handles in any direction. Handle movement should not be possible when applying moderate to strong force. However, excessive force will result eventually in movement and or damage to the front wheel and is therefor not required.

Can't raise the pressure foot on my Brother Project Runway Sewing machine. I raise the plastic lever but it does nothing


Open machine face cover you would be able to see what happen to your presser bar. If you can raise the lever but the presser bar not response Or if you can push up the presser bar easily with your hand, the presser bar tension screw is loose. Upper part of the bar would have the tension/presser spring, press up the presser bar till you can feel enough tension to press the material then tighten the tension screw which is located behind the bar.(Most machine you can access the screw thru a small entry at the back of machine, right behind the bar itself. You may have to repeat this until the bar have enough presser to press the material. Hope this is helpful.

I have a 358351610 chain saw and need to find out how to remove the chain


Set the chain brake to off, then remove the fasteners on the right side cover where the chain drives from. This will release the bar which will slide back toward the engine and allow the chain to be removed. Note the direction of the cutting edge of the teeth. Clean everything including the two small oil passages that run from the large holes in the bar out to the chain groove on each edge of the bar. When refitting a new chain, back off on the chain adjustment screw (CCW) a few turns to allow the cover to fit to the bar properly. Fit the chain over the clutch sprocket, then insert the bar to the engine. Work the chain over the bar, then pull the bar outward to tighten the chain. Install the cover and the fasteners finger tight. Make sure the cover fits the bar properly. Tighten the chain adjuster CW so that the chain pulls up to the lower bar edge, but not so tight that you can't turn the chain by hand. Tighten the cover fasteners, then recheck the chain tension. The lower run of chain should be cutting as the chain moves toward the engine. Check the chain oiling by running the saw at speed with the bar tip near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after several moments. Hope this helps!

I need to locate a service manual to remove and replace a plastic fuel tank with a metal one. Also for body/mirror and door replacements. Help--Thanks


  1. Release the fuel system pressure using the recommended procedure.
  2. Remove the fuel pump unit through the access panel in the floor of the trunk. Drain the fuel tank into a portable fuel siphoning container through the opening in the fuel tank where the fuel pump is mounted.

Prior to disconnecting fuel lines, wrap a shop rag around the connections to absorb any fuel spillage due to residual pressure in the lines.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove both rear tires.
  3. Remove the exhaust pipe rubber insulators off the mounting studs of the rear of the vehicle and in front of the fuel tank.
  4. Using grease pencil or paint marker, place alignment marks on the fuel filler hose, filler tube, vent hose and vent tube.
  5. Remove the rear splash shield from the right rear wheel well.
  6. Disconnect the fuel filler hose and the vent hose near the fuel filter.

  1. Disconnect both ends of the sway bar from the stabilizer links. Use a grease pencil or paint marker to outline the position of the crossmember ends on the frame rail.

  1. Remove the crossmember mounting bolts and pull the crossmember down until it stops.

  1. Place a transmission jack under the fuel tank to support its weight.

The sway bar bracket bolts must be replaced after loosening or removal. Only use original equipment bolts as replacement.
  1. Remove the sway bar mounting bracket, heat shield and fuel tank strap. To prevent the sway bar from falling down, install sway bar mounting bracket with the bolts finger-tight only.

  1. Carefully and slowly lower the front of the fuel tank. Slide the tank away from the crossmember while pushing the filler vent and fill tube over the crossmember. Detach any remaining fuel or electrical connections. Lower the fuel tank.

To install:
  1. Position the tank on the transmission jack or other suitable lift, with the shield and the tank strap in place. Raise the tank over the crossmember and place it in the proper position. Be sure that the electrical connector, pressure relief/rollover valve hose, fuel supply and return lines are accessible through the opening in the trunk. Check to be sure that nothing is pinched or kinked in any way.
  2. Push the vent and the filler tube over the crossmember. Rotate the sway bar into position and install the sway bar brackets.
  3. Raise the tank into place and position the sway bar mounting bracket and the tank straps in place. Tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  4. Raise the crossmember into position and align with the locating marks made during removal. Install bolts and tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  5. Reconnect the filler tube and vent tube making sure to align with the marks made during removal.
  6. Connect the sway bar ends to the link arms and tighten sway bar mounting nuts to 74 ft. lbs. (100 Nm).
  7. Install the exhaust onto the hangers. Install the rear splash shield in the right rear wheel well.
  8. Install the rear wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts, in a star pattern sequence, to 95-100 ft. lbs. (129-135 Nm).
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Install the fuel pump module.
  11. Connect the fuel supply, return and vent tubes. After installation of the quick-connect fittings, check for proper connection by pulling back on the quick-connect fitting. The tube should lock in place. If the connection is not complete, make sure the black plastic ring is not causing the locking retainer to jam in the release position.
  12. Install the fuel pump access cover and gasket. Tighten the fasteners and install the trunk liner.
  13. Install the filler cap and reconnect the negative battery cable.
  14. With the ignition in the ON position, access the DRB III ASD Fuel System Test to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks.

  1. Check the rear wheel alignment and adjust, if necessary.

Here are the ranges your your pressure switch.

First set the cut out pressure turning the nut on the spring. To raise the pressure turn nut clockwise depressing the spring. Adjust this so you device stops at 110 psi. Remember when you raise the cutoutpressure the cut in pressure will also raise. When you get the cut out pressure at 110, then your cut in presure will be approx 90 psi (current 60psi +30psi you raised the cut out pressure). Now you can lower the cut in pressure but backing out the differential nut, the smaller size. Until the device cuts out aht the 80psi you want.

Chain won't rotate


Assuming that you have a fueled engine saw instead of an electric type, remove the drive cover after releasing the chain brake and backing off CCW the chain adjuster screw. Remove the bar/chain and clean the assortment of parts including the small oil passages that are in the drive end of the bar. Wash out the interior of the clutch assembly with spray carburetor cleaner and let dry. Start the engine without the bar/chain and watch for oil oozing out of a small port in the side of the engine case. If nothing, check the oil pump, lines, and valve/filter within the oil tank. If ok, re-assemble the bar, then the chain over the sprocket and out over the bar. Extend the bar out to tighten the chain, and fit the cover to the saw. Tighten the fasteners finger tight, then adjust the chain up to the lower bar edge (the teeth cut toward you on the bottom run) but not so tight that you can't turn the chain by hand. Tighten the fasteners and recheck chain tension. Check chain oiling by running the bar tip at speed near a piece of cardboard for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the board. Husqvarna chainsaw 235e starts but the chain won't move. Maybe the brake is stuck??


Does the brake seem to 'snap-over' like it should? Pull it back to release position, and remove the drive cover. Check the entire brake for debris accumulation or bent/damaged brake band. Check the chain to see if it is being oiled. Remove the bar/chain and clean the entire assembly, particularly the small oil passages in the drive end of the bar. Start the engine and watch for oil oozing out of the small side port where the bar fits. If ok, reassemble the bar/chain. If no oil comes out, investigate the oil pump, lines, and filter/valve in the oil tank. Mount the side cover, but leave the fasteners finger tight. (The chain teeth cut toward you on the bottom run) Tighten the chain until the lower run comes up to the bar, but can still be turned by hand. Tighten the fasteners and recheck the tension. Trip the chain brake and make sure it locks the chain, then release it and make sure it turns freely. Check the chain oiling by running the bar tip at speed near some cardboard--it should leave a thin line of oil on the board. Hope this helps!

It seems to be cutting unevenly from left to right?

It sounds like you may need to adjust the knives. Page 10 and 11 of the operator's manual discuss the details. See below: (I have removede references to the figure and diagrams in the manual - look there for pictures).

ADJUSTING KNIVES

To check and adjust the knives, proceed as follows:
1. DISCONNECT THE TOOL FROM THE POWER SOURCE.

2. Lower the head assembly by turning handle

3. Remove chip deflector

4. Carefully place knife setting gage, on the cutterhead so the rounded sections are directly over the knife as shown. When adjusted correctly, the knife should just contact the bottom of the center portion at each end of gage. Check the other knife in the same manner.

5. If an adjustment to one or both knives is necessary, slightly loosen the seven locking screws, by turning the screws CLOCKWISE into the knife locking bar just enough to relieve stress in the cutterhead and not disturb the knife setting.

6. With setting gage, in place, apply pressure to the knife being reset. Turn the seven knife locking screws, CLOCKWISE until the knife locking bar becomes loose. Lift springs will automatically raise the knife until it comes in contact with gage. Snug the knife locking bar by lightly turning the seven locking screws, COUNTERCLOCKWISE.

IMPORTANT: AT THIS TIME, ONLY TIGHTEN THE KNIFE LOCKING BAR JUST ENOUGH TO HOLD THE KNIFE IN POSITON INSIDE THE CUTTERHEAD SLOT.

7. If the other knife needs adjustment, repeat STEP 6.

8. After both knives are positioned in the cutterhead, turn each of the seven screws, COUNTERCLOCKWISE until the knife is secure in the cutterhead. NOTE: When tightening knife locking screws, tighten the end screws first, then inward toward the center of the cutterhead.

9. Replace chip deflector.
