Question about Fellowes Powershred P-58cs, 9 Sheet Cross-cut Safesense Shredder

1 Answer

Automatic thermal protection reset does not occur. Shredder rendered inoperable. Red LED stays lit. What can I do to reset it?

Thermal protection spontaneously set itself and won't automatically reset itself after powered down for hours and powered up.

These first two answers may indeed be helpful, but they assume that I might be able to locate the feed sensors. I don't have a picture or other diagram. I know they should be near the slotted opening somewhere. Could someone help me locate it or them?

Hi Jeffrey, Sounds like the thermal overload protection is shot. I think that you should be able to get a replacement from radio shack or similar.

SOURCE: Shredder Runs Without Paper In It

First thing you should try is to clean the paper feed sensors with a qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol.if that doesn't help you have a burnt out sensor and need to call manufacturer to check availability of replacement parts.

COLEMAN INVERTER PMP1200 JUST BEEPS WHEN TURNED ON

It is most likely the low voltage alarm. Suggest connecting when the car is running with no load (110 volts not connected). If the alarm continues turn the unit off and on to reset.

Hope this helps?

Inverter Protection Features
• Short Circuit Protection. The inverter will automatically shut down until short is removed.
• Low Voltage Alarm. An alarm will sound when the voltage from the battery discharges to 10.5 +/- 0.5 volts DC. This is an indication that the battery needs to be recharged.
• Over Voltage Protection. The RED LED Indicator Light will illuminate and the inverter will automatically turn itself off when the input exceeds 16.5 +/- 1 volt DC.
• Under Voltage Protection. The RED LED Indicator Light will illuminate and the inverter will automatically turn itself off when the input is less than 10.0 +/- 0.5 volts DC.
• Overload Protection. The RED LED Indicator Light will illuminate and the inverter will automatically turn itself off when the continuous draw of the equipment being operated exceeds 1200 watts or the surge draw of the equipment exceeds 2400 watts.
• Thermal Protection. The RED LED Indicator Light will illuminate and the inverter will automatically turn itself off when the circuit temperature exceeds 150° F

Standby indicator flashes

When the "Protection" indicator comes up the display panel of my receiver or the On/Standby LED is flashing, does that mean my receiver needs to be repaired?
The "Protection" light comes on when the receiver's current sensing and thermal monitors detect some unusual operating condition that, if left unchecked, might damage the amplifier. This can happen if there's a dead short in a speaker wire or if you're using very low impedance loudspeakers at high volume for an extended length of time. On older model AVRs you may see the word "Protect" on the receiver's display. More current models will indicate a flashing red light on the Standby LED when a Protection circuit trips
n thermal cases, the circuitry will automatically reset after a few minutes of cool down and the Protection indicator will go out and normal operation will resume. If the protection light came on due to a speaker wire short, low impedance condition or a bad speaker, the receiver's power will need to be turned off to reset it. Before turning the power back on, all speaker wire connections should be checked for their integrity at the receiver side and at the speaker side. If the protection light goes on immediately after you turn on the receiver, disconnect the speaker wires at the receiver side and retest. If the receiver's protection light goes off, then there would still seem to be a problem with one channel's speaker wires or speakers. Connecting them one by one and retesting should allow you to find the problem speaker or connection.
If after checking all your connections, the Protection indicator stays lit, you may need to "initialize the microprocessor (see the FAQ on that topic) or take your receiver to an authorized repair center for a diagnostic. The "Initialization of the Microprocessor" or "reset" procedure can be found in your owner's manual on current model AVR product. Please note, this will erase all setup configurations in the system and require the system to be setup again. You may want to mark down the settings before resetting your receiver to aid in the setup process. If you had an installer setup your system, you can contact them for assistance and any associated costs that may apply to setup the receiver again would be the responsibility of the owner.

Why wont the reset button depress on riccar 8955 or turn on after trying

The reset button does not have a significant amount of movement in response to pressing to with a paper clip or ball point pen. If the vacuum does not start upon pressing the button, then either the thermal protection circuit is not why the vacuum stopped in the first place or the reason the thermal protection circuit tripped has not been cleared. Quoting from the manual

"Your Riccar vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a Manual Reset Thermal Fuse Protector. This thermal protector is designed to protect your vacuum cleaner from overheating due to a restriction in airflow (i.e. clogged hose, operating the vacuum without a bag). Should this situation occur, the thermal fuse protector will safely shut off the vacuum cleaner to avoid any potential damage. NOTE: To determine it was the thermal fuse protector that turned off your vacuum
cleaner, please refer to the vacuum cleaner's headlight. If the headlight is on while the motor is off, then the thermal fuse protector did safely shut down the motor. If both the headlight and motor are off, then there is some reason other than the thermal protector (i.e. pulled plug) your vacuum is off.
To reset the thermal fuse:
. Unplug the vacuum cleaner

  1. Check for problem - over-filled bag, clog in hose, clogged filters, etc.
  2. Correct problem
  3. Locate "tripped" fuse - the small white button located on the bottom of the back side of the main body (roughly one inch to the right of the left wheel)
  4. Using a pencil, paper clip or other pointed object, push the reset button in
  5. Plug vacuum cleaner in and resume use"

After cleaning my shredder Royal MC9 and waiting for more than 30 minutes unplugged, I can't restart it and the power button alaways stay off (as with no electricity) Do this shredder have a reset? I

There is a thermal switch in a shredder for situations when the paper gets stuck in the rollers and the blocked motor is overheating.
Usually the thermal switch is reversible, ie after cooling down the unit powers on fine. To my knowledge there is no physical reset needed.
However, the motor itself may have a secondary thermal fuse inside it's winding, and this one usually is single-use: when it blows - the motor needs to be repaired.
If waiting even more doesn't help, and you indeed triple-checked the safety interlock features, then it is possible that a fuse is indeed blown and the unit needs inspection by an electrician.

Electric motor keeps cutting out

There may be a thermal protector placed internally within the motor or motor-compressor to protect the motor and motor winding's components from dangerous overheating that can cause motor failure.
This overheating generally occurs when the motor is overloaded, a bearing seizes up, something locked the motor shaft from turning, or the motor simply fails to start properly. A failure to start may be caused by faulty start winding's in a motor.
The thermal protector consists of one or more heat-sensing elements integral with the motor or motor-compressor and an external control device. The thermal protection is in place to turn the motor off when excessive heat is generated within the motor circuitry and keep it from burning up the motor.
These thermal protectors are reset when the motor cools to a safe operating temperature. There is usually a visible red button located on the wiring side of the motor, opposite of the motor shaft, but not always. In some cases, these buttons are reset manually.

CS-W12DKR indoor fan motor thermal protection?

Thermal protection on motors is inside the motor and is supposed to reset when the winding cools down. There may be a red button reset on the exterior of the motor. The thermal protector consists of one or more heat-sensing elements built into the motor or motor-compressor, plus an external control device. The thermal protection is present to turn the motor off when excessive heat is generated within the motor circuitry, halting the temperature climb before it can burn up the motor.

One channel thermal overload stays lit and no output from that channel. even after unit sits overnight, thermal light on immediately, unit not hot. Looking for schematic?

Red light is on if:
- thermal protection, overheated amp, bad thermo sensor
- DC at speaker terminals
- high current at output transistors
Also could be a protection circuit malfunction.
In any case you need new channel module or send your module or whole amp for repair here.
Thanks,
Paul

Water heater will not stay lit even after replacing thermal coupl

The pilot must encompass the thermocouple "bulb" in order for the thermocouple to generate enough current to keep the pilot valve on. You must also hold the red button down for a long enough period to get the thermocouple hot. If the pilot is not large enough, it could be due to a clog in the pilot orifice at the pilot itself. Sometimes a couple of passes over the end of it with fine steel wool is all it takes to clear it.

Hope this helps. Feel free to share what you found. Thanks.
