I have a 14 year old Neptune that run great except now no hot water.

There's a fill valve combination on most washers. On the simpler, cheaper models they're simple to change.

It's where the hoses connect, it's usually plastic, and there is a hot and a cold valve in the assembly. Hot opens for hot water, cold opens for cold water, and both open for warm water. apparently the solenoid valve on the hot water side has failed and the unit needs to be replaced.

I am having difficulties replacing the water valve on my maytag top load washer, model mav208daww. How do I get to it?

Hi.

Disconnect power cord or trip circuit breaker. Unplug the water hoses after turning off the water supply. Using a screwdriver, release and lift up the washer top panel. Using needle nose pliers, disconnect the wires from the old valve, and undo the hose that feeds water into the tub. From the back of the washer, I undo the screw holding the valve in place. Remove the old valve. Connect electrical wires and hose to the new inlet valve before installing the valve. Screw the valve back in place and reattach the hot and cold water hoses, close the top of the washer, turn on the water supply, and connect power back.

Below a diagram. The valve is part 14. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Please tell me how to replace the gasket on the flapper assy.

flapper.jpgFlapper or flush valve needs servicing
First try cleaning minderal deposits from around the valve seat. This can keep the flapper valve from sealing properly and allow water to seap into the bowl. First turn of the water and flush the toilet to empty the bowl. You can unhook the flapper valve to get it out of the way. Using emery cloth scrub the inside of the valve seat to remove the mineral deposits. Next coat the valve seat with petroleum jelly to help the flapper valve make a tight seal. Replace the flapper valve, turn on the water and check to see if the water still leaks.
If the flapper valve is old it may be deformed. In this case you will need to replace it. You can unhook the valve and remove the lift chain from the valve. Be sure to purchase a similar size replacement valve.
If the valve seat is damaged you will need to replace the entire flush-valve assembly. You will need to remove the tank to do this. Be certain to turn off the water supply and flush the tank to drain it. You might also want to place newspaper and towels on the floor to soak up any water that may leak out. Using and adjustable wrench loosen the nuts at the supply tube and push the tube aside. Next, use a flat-head screwdriver to hold the bolts inside the tank still while using an adjustable wrench to loosen the nut on the bottom of the tank. You will then be able to lift the tank off of the bowl. Lay the tank on the newspapers or towels.
To replace the flush-valve assembly first remove the old one by unscrewing the locknut on the bottom of the tank. Use a hacksaw to cut the new overflow pipe to 1/2 ince below the tank top. Put plumber's putty on the washer at the base of the flush-valve assembly and push the assembly against the tank opening, removing any excess putty. Use a monkey wrench to tighten the locknut. Replace the gasket over the locknut and replace the tank on the bowl and reassemble them.

The starter won't completely turn over even though

Sometimes on the Briggs and Kohler engines, the compression release fails to operate at the proper time or is malfunctioning. A remedy for this is to remove the valve cover(s) and adjust the OH valves per the manufacturers specifications. This enables much easier starting, produces less wear and tear on the starter and may allow your new battery to completely turn that engine over. Out of adjustment valves mimic a weak or failing battery quite well and the engine hangs up on the compression stroke because the compression release system is not working properly. Adjust those darn valves.

How ofter should a Rheem 81V80D A be replaced. So far no problems but is on the second floor. 11 years old.

They don't need to be replaced until you have a problem with it leaking or an element burns out. You can replace the element yourself if your handy. So you won't have to replace unless you have it leaking.

Did you replace the flush valve or the flapper?

There must either be a problem with the seal between the two surfaces of the flapper and flush valve or the flapper is being prevented by the flush system to returning to make a seal against the flush valve after the water completes draining during the flush cycle or more likely water is draining through the overflow tube.

Make sure the sealing surfaces are clean and not damaged.

Make sure the flapper is not being interfered with and is able to return to the closed position to make a complete seal against the flush valve.

Check adjustment of the water fill level to make sure the water is not filling above the water overflow. If the inlet valve does not shut-off when the level is adjusted to the proper level the water inlet valve may need replacing.

I replaced my fluid master and now it will not stop filling in the tank.

Try lifting the float part of the valve. If the water stops filling, reset the float level lower.
If water does not stop when lifting the float, flush out the valve according to the instructions - steps 12 - 15.

12. IMPORTANT: Always clear sand and rust from system. Make sure

water supply is shut off. Remove valve TOP by lifting arm and rotating

top and arm 1/8 turn counterclockwise, pressing down slightly on cap.

13. While holding a container over the uncapped VALVE to prevent

splashing, turn water supply on and off a few times. Leave water

supply off.

14. Replace TOP by engaging lugs and rotating 1/8 turn clockwise. MAKE

CERTAIN TOP IS TURNED TO THE LOCKED POSITION. VALVE MAY

NOT TURN ON IF TOP IS NOT FULLY TO THE LOCKED POSITION.

15. Turn on water supply. Adjust water to desired level by squeezing water

level adjustment clip and moving FLOAT CUP up or down along stainless
steel link. Check for leaks, then check for proper flush.

If valve continues to run:

IF FILL VALVE WON'T TURN OFF,

• There may be debris at seal - repeat Steps 12-15.

• The seal inside the valve top may be damaged -replace with genuine
Fluidmaster 242 seal.
