Question about Exercise & Fitness

Open Question

The system turns on but every time I push start the second time to start the motor it blows the fuse. Any ideas on the problem?

One day all of a sudden the treadmill blew the fuse. It seemed to be lubricated okay, but I lubricated and try to adjust the belt to be loose to start just to see if the motor would turn the belt. But each time the fuse blows. (Note: the circuit breaker on the front doesn't trip, but in fuse on the lower electronics plate blew the first time. I replaced with similar but now my house circuit breaker trips instead. It's 20 amp and the fuse if 15 amp so I have no idea the why of that.) Hopefully I don't need a new motor.

SOURCE: my house circuit breaker kept tripping and

sounds like your heating element has opened up it was probably partially shorted to the case and this was causing your breaker arcing condition previously

SOURCE: air compressor will not run. motor will try to start but trips

If you're running it on an extension chord they tend to do that, especially if they're really cold or really hot. If that's not it you could try changing the oil, or just check to make sure that's full. Keep in mind really cold oil will work just like it does in your car. Try that and see if it helps.

Fuses only fail if there is high current. Either the motor has a serious short or the motor circuit has a relatively high resistance short causing the high current. Check the motor windings , equipment has to be de-energized and compare the readings to normal for that motor. Typical readings should be about the same for a same size motor. Another possibility is the start winding (button controlled) is not disengaging. This could be as simple as the push button to start the motor is cloed all the time or does not become disconnected after the button is let go of. Once damaged these buttons tend to "weld" closed so the high current of the start winding is always ON and not OFF after the push to start button is released.

AC isn't working

when a fuse keeps blowing it can only be one of two causes. either the consumer is loading the circuit too much due to a bearing problem or rusty component, or there could be a short circuit to ground. disconnect the blower motor plug connector and turn your a/c on like normal. if it blows the fuse again, replace the blower fan motor. if not, start checking the wiring for any exposed copper that might touch the ground-negative.also inspect all the plug connectors for water damage and corrosion.

Matag Dryer won't run

If the thermal fuse is blowing or the breakers when you bypass the fuse it means a part has a short circuit. There are more than one thermal fuses in there, so you will have to find where the one that blows is connected to.
My guess at this point would be that the motor or the start up capacitor are causing the fuse to blow but also check for a defective or shorted heater element.
