If the power indicator remains on (or LED remains green) when the unit goes dead, you will need to replace the main board to resolve.

Of course it can be repaired. Do U wanna spend the money?

The circuit board that is responsible for vertical deflection has an intermittent condition responsible for the anomaly. If you locate the board you might want to check for the signs of a faulty capacitor.

If all looks dynamite, checking for a bad cap can be an ordeal and maybe the best way to go is simply replace the board in question.

It sounds like an overheating issue with the T-con board. You shouldn't have to run a house fan behind the TV to keep the screen on. Make sure you have the TV in a place where there is enough space around it to allow for air flow. Also, check to make sure the ventilation slots on the back of the TV are not blocked with dust.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
