How do I clean the printhead on my HP 2410 Printer?

Will print one page and then lighter until nothing shows up in print. I am told I need to clean the printhead. I need instructions on how to clean the printhead.

You should take head to a refilling site where they have an ultrasound head-cleaner. If still presenting problems, probably head is damaged and you need to buy a new one

Every printer has a tool installed on the computer called clean heads. or something like that.
Run a cleaning cycle and do a head aligning, just to see if all nozzles are working.
When you have the printer working, please once a week switch it on and switch it off after say 5 minutes, just to clean the heads once a week. Just to avoid clothing of the nozzles.

Select "Copy" from the touchscreen and then select "Settings..." Adjust the "Lighter/Darker" setting and see if that helps.

How can I get rid of lines on photos

Step one: Retry the print

If printing on glossy paper was paused or interrupted in the middle of the print job (for instance, if a cartridge was replaced), the resulting print may show a grainy band. In this case, retry the print and avoid interrupting the job.

Step two: Free up system resources and ensure direct communication

The PC can cause the printer to pause if it is not fast enough to keep the printer fed with data. The following steps can help alleviate this problem.
  1. Make sure that the PC meets the minimum system requirements for this printer.
  2. Restart the PC.
  3. Close out of all programs except for the program the print out will originate from.
  4. Shut down programs running in the Task Bar by right clicking on them and choosing exit. These programs will restart the next time the PC is rebooted.
  5. Ensure that the USB cable is 10 feet in length or less. Make sure the USB cable goes directly from the printer to the PC with no intervening devices in between such as a USB hub.

Step three: Check the paper or specialty printing material


  • Make sure the media is not damaged, scratched, or curled. Always store printing materials in a sealed plastic bag, especially in a humid environment, to help protect the material from damage or curl.
  • HP inks and media are designed to deliver optimum results. Other media may not perform as well.

Step four: Increase the print quality mode

If reprinting did not help and the paper or specialty printing material is not damaged, check the print quality mode:
  1. Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
  2. On the File menu in your software program, click Print .
  3. Make sure your printer is selected.
  4. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box. Depending on your software program, this button might be called Properties , Options , Printer Setup , or Printer .
  5. Click the Features tab.
  6. In the Print Quality drop down list, choose a higher print quality (for instance, if the print quality is Fast Draft or Normal , switch to Best or Maximum DPI ).

Step five: Clean the printheads using the printer control panel

If you still see streaks or lines in your printouts, clean the printheads using the printer control panel.


NOTE:Always allow the printhead cleaning routine to complete. If the printer loses power in the middle of a cleaning, make sure to repeat the cleaning and allow the printer to complete it.

  1. Using the arrow keys to move through the menu options, find and select Clean printheads , and then press OK .
  2. Following the directions on the printer screen, load paper so the printer can print a test page after cleaning the printheads. Use plain paper to conserve photo paper.
  3. Press OK to begin cleaning the printheads. A Print Quality Diagnostic page prints at the end of the cleaning. Figure 4: Print Quality Diagnostic page

  1. If there are white lines across any of the color blocks on the Print Quality Diagnostic page, press Cancel to repeat the cleaning.
  2. Cleaning may be repeated a number of times. The number of cleanings (and therefore the length of the procedure and the amount of ink and paper used) will vary depending on the severity of the problem. A Print Quality Diagnostic page is printed after each cleaning. Look for white lines through the blocks after each cleaning, and if the print quality seems to be getting better (fewer white lines), continue to repeat the cleaning. Eventually, a Recommend Six-Minute Cleaningmessage will appear on the printer display. If the print quality has been improving, press OK to perform six-minute cleaning.
    • As soon as the white lines no longer appear in the color blocks, the problem should be solved. Print a normal print job to confirm that the print quality is acceptable.
    • If the print quality is still bad after the six-minute cleaning, or does not improve with repeated cleaning, or is not acceptable even though there are no white lines through the color blocks, go on to the next step.

      Step six: Align and calibrate the printheads

      If you still see streaks or lines in your printouts, align and calibrate the printheads.
      1. Align the printheads:
        1. Load plain, white, unused paper in the main tray.
        2. Press Menu on the printer control panel. Figure 5: Menu button on the printer control panel

    1. Select Calibrate Printer , and then press OK .
    2. Select Align Printheads , and then press OK .
  1. Reset the closed loop calibration:
    1. Press Menu on the printer control panel.
    2. Select Calibrate printer , and then press OK .
    3. Select Reset closed loop calibration , and then press OK .
    4. The printer LCD will display Ready .
  2. Color calibrate the printer using closed loop calibration.
    1. Load HP Advanced Glossy Photo Paper in the main tray.
NOTE:Only HP Advanced Glossy Photo Paper should be used for this process. If plain paper is detected by the printer, the calibration procedure may fail or print quality may be affected.

    1. Press Menu on the printer control panel.
    2. Select Calibrate Printer, and then press OK.
    3. Select Closed Loop Calibration, and then press OK.

Step seven: Clean the printheads manually

If you still see streaks or lines in your printouts, clean the printheads manually:
  1. Gather the following items to clean the nozzles on the printheads:
    • Distilled water (tap water might contain contaminants that could damage the printheads)
    • Cotton swabs or other soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the printhead
    • Sheets of paper or paper towels to rest the printheads on
  2. Open the top door of the printer.
  3. Press and hold OK until the printhead assembly moves to the left side of the printer and stops.
  4. Raise the printhead assembly cover.
  5. Remove a printhead and place it on a piece of paper with the ink nozzle plate facing up.

NOTE:Do not touch the ink nozzle plate with your fingers. Touching the ink nozzle plate will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

NOTE:Do not leave the printhead outside the printer for more than 30 minutes. Ink nozzles exposed to the air longer than this might dry out and cause printing problems.

  1. Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and squeeze any excess water from the swab by pressing it against a clean plastic or tile surface. Do not use your fingers to squeeze the excess water from the swab, because the oil from your fingers could contaminate the swab.
  2. Gently wipe the nozzles on the printhead with the cotton swab. Figure 7: Wiping the nozzles

  1. Wipe until no ink residue or dust appears on a clean swab.
  2. Insert the printhead in the printer.
  3. Repeat the steps above for each printhead. When all the printheads have been cleaned and reinstalled, close the top door of the printer.

Step eight: Replace the printhead

If you still see streaks or lines in your printouts after performing all the steps above, one or more printheads may need to be replaced. If your printheads are still under warranty, click Contact HPon this page to arrange to replace the printheads.

Printer won't print in black -- changed the cartridges. Nothing comes out on the page when I try to print.


the inkjet nozzle or printhead may be clog.
you will need to run the clean inkjet tool atleast 5-10 times to clear the inkjet nozzle.
  1. Make sure there is plain white paper loaded in the input tray.
  2. Open HP Solution Center:
    • Windows XP: Click Start , click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
    • Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon (c01319360.gif ), click All Programs , point to HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
    HP Solution Center opens in a separate window.
  3. Click Settings (c01495176.gif ).
  4. Under Print Settings , click Printer Toolbox . The printer Toolbox opens in a new window.
  5. Click the Device Services tab.
  6. Click Clean the Printheads .
  7. Follow the on-screen prompts until you are satisfied with the quality of the output, and then click Done . When the cleaning is complete, the product prints a test page. Figure 13: Example test pagec01496479.gif
  8. Recycle or discard the test page.

My hp psc 2410 does not recognize the black ink cartridge. I just changed it out and now it says that it is not installed. How do I fix this?


Try Cleaning the Cartridges manually and automatically.
For the cartridge clean it with a damp lint free cloth and also for the printheads wher eyour gonna be inserting the cartridges.
Follow these steps do do the automatic aligning and cleaning:
Click Start and then go to Printers and Faxes (XP), Printers(Vista), Devices and Printers(Win 7)
1. Right Click on your printer Icon 2. Go to Printing Preferences 3. Click the Features Tab 4. At the bottom of the window you will see Printer Services or Device Services. Click on it. 5. Choose Align Printheads on the list.

For Cleaning the Printheads, Instead of choosing Align Printer choose Clean Printheads.

Printer full of ink, but will pring pages either blank of with smeared ink.


Follow these steps to check the print settings for your print job.
  1. In the software program you are trying to print from, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. Select your product, and then click Properties . The printer Properties dialog box opens.
  3. Click the Printing shortcuts tab.
  4. Under Printing shortcuts , click the type of job you are trying to print.
  5. Review the following options, and then make any necessary changes.
    • Paper size : Make sure that the selected option matches your paper size.
    • Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, select that option.
    • Print quality : If you are not satisfied with your printed page quality, or want more densely printed prints, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, or for lighter prints, decrease the print quality.
  6. Click the Features tab.
  7. Check the Print in Grayscale setting
    • If you are trying to print in color, select Color Options , and then make sure that Print in Grayscale is not selected.
    • If you are printing a black and white image, select Print in Grayscale to fix streaking in black areas.
  8. Click OK , and then click OK again to start the print job.
Make sure the printer is loaded with unused white paper.
Open HP Solution Center , then click Settings , then Printer Toolbox .
Select the Services tab.
Click Print PQ (print quality) Diagnostic Page .

The Print Quality Diagnostic page shows which printhead should be replaced.

I try to print a card or bank statements and nothing is printing just put in new ink, it only prints the 1st page of a quarter fold card, it should all be on one page and it prints only partial card


IF the Kodak AiO printer is printing partial ther are two main device of the printer that have issue on the scanner [where you put the document for copying] or the printhead of the printer.
Step that you can do
1. Try to print a test page in this way you can check if the printer prints whole page. How to print test page press copy button and photo button on the printer for atleast 10 sec. or until the printer starts printing. Reminder Test page doesn't need a document on the scanner glass. It will print an advertising doc for the printer. Now if the test page is half/partial it is the printhead that has an issue. If it print the whole page it is the scanner that has issue contact kodak for printer repair
2.Clean the printhead twice and reseat the printhead it
How: press menu button then select clean printhead then select basic/deep clean. To reseat printhead open the printer access door; remove the ink cartridges; remove the printhead; close the printer access door then open the printer access door insert the printhead then the ink cartridges.
