Unless the solenoid is shorted or opened electrically; or physically damaged have it ultrasonically cleaned. No chemical dip as it will damage the enamel coated wires.

Removing and bypassing can cause exhaust system damage from raw fuel igniting in the exhaust during shut down.

Can I bypass this if so what do I do with the wiring part

Go by John Deere and pickup PN M120421 and M77219. Simply disconnect the wire and tape securely of the harness. Remove the solenoid and install the parts fore mentioned.

Why do you think its the fuel shout off solinoid you can test that with jumper wires right off the battery if it moves it works .
Its sounds like the problem is no fuel to the carb mabay a basic inspection of fuel delerivery pumps filters air filter it is a tractor .
Then look at at the carburator drop the float bowl see what you have in the bottom of the bowl if its not clean neighter is the carb'

The John Deere STX38 comes in 2 models, the yellow deck and the black deck. Further you did not say which engine model you have on your machine. Therefore the following answer is just a generalization. This may or may not work for you.

Diagnosing the Fuel Shut Off valve:

  • Assuming the battery is good and fully charged
  • Assuming the Key Switch is working.
When you sit in the seat and turn the key, one click from off to run, you will hear a faint click. That faint click is the fuel shut off valve under the carburetor. It is turning on and off when you cycle the key from off to run. If you hear this click your fuel solenoid is functioning electronically. It could still be experiencing issues inside the carburetor. Perhaps there is some varnish, silt or other trash keeping it from working. This will require a physical examination.

The following is an "out of carburetor" electrical check up.
  1. Remove the Solenoid.
  2. Connect one jumper wire from a terminal to the positive battery post.
  3. Connect a second wire from a terminal to the negative battery post. The solenoid should retract.
  4. Remove one jumper; the solenoid should spring back out.
It is likely possible to disable it inside the carburetor bowl. These shut offs use a little electromagnetic motor to push a plunger up and down. The plunger seals off the fuel inlet. Theoretically you could physically disable that process. You could for instance, cut the plunger head off the solenoid.

A better, albeit more expensive, option is just to replace the solenoid. You did not say but you likely have a Kohler engine. Not knowing your exact engine model I can't absolutely specify your replacement part. However you may need this part # 12 757 28-S. These typically run about $100.00

The John Deere part number is AM128242. You can get this on Amazon for about $80.

Green Parts has this kit for $75

You have to specify your exact engine model to find the exact replacement part.

You can just take the solenoid out and put a machined bolt (with a fiber washer) back in the hole. You might also remove the solenoid, pull out the plunger, then screw the solenoid back in. At this point, just reconnect the connector; it’s a handy place to put it and it will no longer have any effect on the running of the machine. Another option is to just wire tie the connector out of the way. No other electrical component relies on this connector or the functioning of the solenoid. The only downside to bypassing this device is possible engine backfire at shutoff. When you turn the key off, this device blocks any further fuel from going into the carb. Without it you may get extra fuel sucked through the cylinders. With no spark it doesn’t burn in the cylinder. It then explodes when it hits the hot exhaust. Eventually that will damage your exhaust system. I am not sure the trade off of the money saved today is worth the long term life of the engine. For my own equipment, I wouldn’t do it. Other than that problem, there is no other effect on the running of the system. You will of course be bypassing one element of the safety shut down system. That’s your liability element.

What John says in his answer is a point to consider. Do you really have a bad solenoid or are you having fuel problems that may be something else entirely. If you want to repost your question as unknown fuel related problems, I will provide an entirely different answer. Be sure to include your engine model and meter hours.

percussive maintenance my friend. Try banging on the solenoid and starter with a hammer while in the start position. Also, if you have a voltmeter, you can see where voltage is getting to and that will help you as well.

I have a john Deere stx38 yellow deck Kohler motor does this mower have any fuses that has anything to do with getting fire

Hello I'm wade No it doesn't! It is all ran by key switch. If you can remove air filter and spay starting fluid in engine if it starts then you having fuel delivery problem. Fuel shut-off solenoid usually sticks not causing fuel to get into engine and that solenoid is what kills the engine when key gets turned off. If you have any further question I'm here to help.
