My singer simple; the wheel is difficult to turn, the needle wont go up and down, the material wont feed

Sounds like you have a thread jam( bird's nest) inside your bobbin housing. Take the face plate off, remove the bobbin, and take the housing apart if you have to...then start all over with winding new thread on the bobbin and re threading the machine before you try sewing. Hope this helps!

Singer - 241-12, bobbin thread not stitching

I have a 241-12 Singer. New to me. It was running great. Then the bobbin thread ran out. Put in one prewound bobbin that came with it, even though the bobbin appeared different. The bobbin thread didn't feed and the machine jammed up. I finally wound the old bobbin and put it in. It will only feed about 6" of thread before the bobbin thread breaks. It becomes so tight I can't get it to feed. Both bobbins will not feed. However I don't believe it's the bobbin tension because thread will pull through fine when pulled manually (if it hasn't been in the machine yet). What am I doing wrong?

When i start to sew on my Janome sewing machine model Sewist 525S it does a couple of stitches on any stitch type then bangs then sews then bangs then stops. I look to see the problem and the bobbin and...

There has to be a problem in your threading or your needle. You may have the needle inserted backwards, flat side has to face rear or the needle is bent. Totally unthread your machine and make sure that there are no tangles and that it feeding the right way. Watch how they show your for threading and winding the bobbin, plus threading the bobbin. Good luck, but I truly think it is in your threading.

Presser foot will not feed and the thread wont catch

The presser foot is not suppose to feed. It's purpose is to hold the fabric in place as the feed dogs feed the fabric from the front to the back of the machine as stitches are formed.

Check the needle to be sure it is installed with the flat side of the needle shank facing the back of the sewing machine.

Refer to your manual to be sure the bobbin thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the correct direction and through the guides.

Pull the bobbin thread up by lowering the threaded needed down and then back up. Pull both threads under the presser foot and to the back of the machine.

Set the stitch length to 2.

Place a scrap of fabric under the presser foot. Holding onto the ends of both threads, lower the needle into the fabric for the first stitch.

If the machine still does not stitch, the machine may need to go in for maintenance as the timing may need to be adjusted.

If the feed dogs are not moving, this also needs to be repaired by sewing machine service tech.

Thread take up lever in the way?

I would un-thread and remove the bobbin and then try the foot control.

If the needle does not go up and down, check the bobbin winder to be sure it is not engaged.

If the machine works with out string/thread, re-thread with the presser foot up.

Check the insertion of the bobbin into the bobbincase to be sure the thread is feeding from the bobbin spool in the correct direction.

Sometimes it is better to open the manual, lay it next to the machine, read and apply each step as you go through the pages, especially bobbin winding and threading.

I hope something will work this out for you.

My bobbin wont feed through

take the bobbin out check for debris (pieces of thread, lint, etc.) that may be jamming the bobbin. check under the feed plate for a thread jam or debris. check if your bobbin is wound too tightly. it can happen! then it will keep breaking. the other adjustments are mainly for thread tension- the spool on top. if they're too tight, the thread will keep breaking. you can tell- once they're properly adjusted- by the quality of the stitch. check the bobbin first! if it's too tightly wound, you can probably adjust the winding tension on top. try a different bobbin. if that works then 'rinse and repeat!'.
good luck!

Feed Dogs, Thread Tangle

Hi Jeanette! You have a Singer Featherweight--the best sewing machine ever made! (Mine dates from 1950/51 and I wouldn't trade it for the world.) These beautiful, sturdy machines were designed to be easily repairable at home, but you'll need a copy of the Service Manual (get the Instruction manual too, if you don't have one.) Go to www.singer-featherweight.com and check out what they have available.

I had a similar problem (needle thread not catching the bobbin thread) and the problem was that I hadn't put the needle in correctly (flat side to the left). Also, I will occasionally get thread wrapped around the bobbin housing--sewing along just great and then everything comes to a screeching halt. I'm not sure why that happens, but I'm getting pretty good at taking the bobbin housing apart. The manual is pretty clear on how to do it. You can contact me direct at robbie1949@comcast.net for more information.

Thanks!

Robbie
