My mother board does not start. The fan movs for a fraction of second and powers off. How to repair the motherboard vrm section

Unless you are a skilled electronics repair technician, attempting to repair a motherboard is like attempting brain surgery. First, you don't have a schematic diagram to even know what components are necessarily suspect. You don't have the diagnostic equipment to determine which components have failed. Most MB failures of this sort are caused by power surges and most like the failed components are some of the micro-mini components on the board. You are most likely going to damage the board further in any attempt to repair. These boards are mass-produced and even the manufacturers rarely repair them. If you return one under warranty, they test it to see why it failed, and if the failure was due to a defect in materials, they will replace it with the same board or one that is newer and better. If the board failed under non-warranted conditions, such as ESD mishandling or power/lightning surges, they will not replace the board without charge. You are better off just getting a new board.

What caused fuse too fail on mother board

Hello Patrick;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

In your owners manual you will see the manufacturer recommends a surge protector. You can purchase individual wall socket surge protectors for $15.00-$20.00.

The slightest change in power supply will do this. Static electricity will knock out control board. Then, you ma have had a bad board.

I have gone on service calls, replaced the control board, only to find out that the board I put in was bad.

I was required to return failed electric boards to the manufacturer for reconditioning. So, if you were to purchase a board it may not be new. It could be reconditioned.

If you ever decide to replace a board yourself; ground yourself by rubbing your hands on steel. Remember static electricity will knock out a board.

Mother boards

You probably have voltage fluctuations in your domestic power supply. Please use a good quality surge protector or a voltage stabilizer.

Optiplex GX520,270,280,755,745 ONBORD COM PORT AFTER DAYS WILL FAULTY

A surge protector stops power surges from eskom etc. from fryin your mother board and power supply. when the power goes off sometimes its just a phase . when all phases are off and the power comes back to all Phases instantly at a strong output this can fry your mother board or damage your power supply . surge protector keeps the power at one level even if it isnt , make sense? Also see UPS.Lightning can do the same effect too

Dead mother board

The problem with power surges, or low power (brownouts) causing excessive current draw can cause multiple problems to motherboards. Even if you were to pinpoint and repair one problem that appeared to fix the fault, several other components on the board may have been weakened, and prone to fail.

If you are certain that the power supply is 100% ok, then replace the MB.

The best power protection is to use a UPS.
