How do I replace the bottom element on a Moffat MSS 601 X oven?

I actually sorted this out myself. The issue was the insulation which was obscuring the bottom element. The process I followed is as follows:
    1. Ensure the circuit breaker for the oven circuit is off
    2. Remove back panel from oven
    3. Locate the bottom element (centre bottom) and carefully pull off the wires via the spade connectors
    4. Carefully pull the insulation over the exposed element connectors
    5. There is one screw holding the element in place. Once removed the element should slide out.
    6. Installing a new element is simply the reverse of the above

Simple really and took me 10 mins mx once I realised the insulation could be removed. Bad design really but not a difficult job in the end. Thanks to all who sent advice. Case closed!

Moffat oven doesn't heat .The elements don't turn red

Check the oven fuse. If that's OK, unplug it from the power supply. Remove the screws holding the element to the oven and pull it carefully back away from the oven wall. Connect your VOM test leads to the 2 terminals (meter set to at least 250Vac). Make sure the leads are not touching any metal parts of the oven and they are not touching the element. Plug oven in and turn the oven on. Do not touch the oven during testing. Reading 220 - 250 Vac power is OK. Element is bad. Reading lower then 220 or none at all no power getting to element, need more testing to find the problem. Be careful, and use common sense when working with and around electricity.

While roasting a chicken in the oven, a "fizzle" was heard and the lower element shut off, the light on the dial did not work although it would go on when switching it to broil but there was still no heat,...

your heater element went (the metal rod that heats up inside oven). can easily find replacement and not hard to do but make sure you shut off power/ unplug oven. usually a couple of screws where the element goes into back of oven to hold it in place. then can pull element out enough to see the screws that attatch the wires the the element. most appliance repair shops carry them in stock. may be easier to take old one in to match up then trying to locate the make model and seriel number you would need wuthout it.

Broiler will not come on when baking

Take a look at the element ( the "tube" inside the oven that glows red hot when the oven is turned on). If the element is burned out it will not be hot and glowing. You may have a loose connection to the element but most likely it is burned out and needs replacing.
Our stove is 27 years old and I have had to replace top or bottom elements every 6 years or so. I just bought a replacement element at Canadian Tire in Calgary for about $34. Just undo the 2 screws around the element and attach the new element to the old wires.
Good Luck -I hope this works for you

Oven and elements not working,

the oven and burner relay that supplies power to the bake/broil/top surface units is bad or the signal to latch this relay is missing from the control panel

Oven fan working. just no heat.

Most common problem will be a faulty oven element. Also check the wiring at the oven element terminals, it could be burnt off.

What is wrong if the oven is not cooking food evenly?

If it is not a fan assisted oven, then I would say that one of the side elements has gone, u will have to locate and check it,or put the oven for a couple of mins, then check the elements they should both be hot.
Hope this helps.
