Question about Refrigerators
Freezer all of a sudden warmed up to 42 degrees and the fridge side is 72 degrees! I turned the control on both to the coldest settings and still the same is this a fixable problem or is it on its way out?
More than likely it has lost its gas . Re gas it and check for leaks.

Madezmom, you have a defrost issue. If your model starts with 106 you more than likley have a bad defrost bi-metal, I will attach a picture of bad one. This sits on the evaporator in the freezer section behind the panel. You will have to remove the shelves and remove the back panel. Defrost the evaporator completely. The part number for the bi-metal is 2196155. See if yours is bulged like the one in the attached photo. If so, that's your problem..Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: Fridge not keeping food cold.
When you open door to freezer do you hear a fan inside that compartment blowing? If you don't the fan motor is shot and will need to be replaced.

Sounds like it's not defrosting, so unplug open freezer back panel and use a hair dryer to melt ice from evaporator coil. Your refrigerator has a defrost timer on bottom near floor, but if freezer is frozen we need to defrost it so we can make sure there is not some other problem. Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.
