Question about Lenovo ThinkPad T61 Notebook

1 Answer

T61 video lag/skip

On my thinkpad t61, videos will skip from time to time. Not very often but atleast once or twice every 20 or 30 minutes. It will be playing then all audio and video will stop for a moment then resume again at where it left off (usually about 1/2 a sec after it left off really). It's a bit annoying since many of the videos are with subtitles and it will skip a line of subtitles and I will have to go back again. I have the x3100 integrated video card with updated drivers from the lenovo website. Anybody know a solution? Any helps would be appreciated!

Oh, I forgot to mention that I use VLC player for my videos. I have yet to try using just Windows Media Player, but for some of these files...only VLC player will work. Since the file type is already compatible with VLC player...I shouldn't have to download codecs, should I?

I'm trying to connect my IBM Thinkpad T61 to my television. Question # 1. Does the T61 have a video card ? Question #2 Does the T61 need a video card?

Hi,

Question #1. Yes, all laptops has a video card. A laptop will not boot up without a video card.
Question #2. No, your laptop already has a video card.

For some information.
In a laptop, you either have 1 or 2 video cards installed in it. One is the video card that is already bundled with the motherboard (we call it integrated) and the other one is another video card that is attached to the motherboard (we call it dedicated). A dedicated video card is bundled to a laptop for purposes of use, mainly for graphics related businesses (like drawing, animation, gaming etc.).

Hope this helps.

How much is Lenovo ThinkPad T61

The average price of the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 is $1,200 USD. The price depends of your location.

You may use Google Shopping (aka Google Products) to find distributors and compare prices: http://www.google.com/prdhp?hl=en&tab=wf#t:0

I hope this helps.

Blank screen on Thinkpad Lenovo T61, when I connect a monitor and reboot it shows scramble.. help

Your video card adapter might be damage. Or you have installed a wrong driver for your laptop.

Another cause of the problem is your RAM or memory might be damage. I suggest you buy a new memory to test it.

Thanks. Cheers!

Ibm t61 turns on but all I get is a blank black screen.

Hi,
This sounds rather bad. You're not even getting a "thinkpad" screen?
Try unplugging the power and removing the battery for a minute and attempt to power up again.
If it's still not starting, try removing the memory modules (if there are two, remove one and try powering up, then try to remove the other one). Although I seem to remember that newer thinkpads will still show thinkpad logo and attempt to POST even with bad memory (then throw an error), it's always worth a try.
If the above don't make any difference then I'm afraid most probably your motherboard has failed. In theory you could also try swapping the cpu-I've seen a cpu go bad ONCE in my several years of tinkering with laptops.
T61 is a current model-wouldn't it still be under warranty from lenovo? Might be worth checking the serial on their website. Otherwise it's time to search for T61 donor laptops on ebay - ordering a new motherboard from lenovo parts suppliers will most probably be far too expensive.
Good luck, hope you get it working again!

I have an IBM T61 that will not power on.

Power supply may have been hosed. Another thing to try is to plug the A/C adapter in but do NOT have a battery connected. If it powers on then there might have been a problem with the both batteries. Also be sure nothing else is connected to the computer's ports. Especially any external video devices.

How to connect IBM T61 to my Samsung LCD TV 40'' 3xHDMI

If you have an s-video port you will need to buy s-video cables and a separate audio cable for sound. With HDMI you will only need 1 cable for both video and sound. Just connect your s-video cable to your s-video output ( your laptops quick reference manual should show you where your s-video jack is at ) and the other end to the back of your LCD tv video input ( consult your lcd tv manual )
