Running needing the choke on indicates a blocked main jet in the carby or insufficient fuel to the carby
I suggest that you overhaul the carby , using compressed air and new parts on reassembly

My Suzuki Eiger 400 starts hard then once running is great.

The carburetor choke valve might be stuck open or not closing when the engine is cold. The engine needs a richer mixture to start. Too rich a mixture (flooding) can also cause trouble. Turn the fuel valve off to be sure the carb isn't leaking when not in use. If it smokes black on startup, it's flooding. Also check the condition of the spark plugs.

I changed the intake on my 2000 expedition 5.4 it's running ruff and having trouble idling

This is most likely a vacuum leak. Check all the hoses and connections. Make sure there are no splits on the ends of the hoses. If there are no bad hoses or missed connections, take wd40 and spray around the entire gasket area on the intake when the engine is running. If it starts to smooth out, you have found the leak.

Husky generator will not stay running

Let the engine warm up for a couple of minutes and see if it will run with the choke off. I have a couple of small engines which crank well and won't run cold but do OK after I let them warm up a bit.
Normally I would say you have a carb problem with gas not getting from the carb bowl, into the jet and into the engine.
Your engine being new it could still be a problem.
All the air coming into an engine is supposed to come thru the carb. If you have air leaking in from somewhere else then to get the air/fuel correct enough to run you are having to close the choke.
Check for leaks by cranking the engine and doing a quick spray of carb cleaner all around the mounting areas but not near the air intake.
If there is an air leak the engine will respond by changing rpm.
If you don't find an air leak, it's the carb.

Gentron 3500.. Starts fine, but idles up and down..runs better when choked or partialy choked..but if I loosen the bottom screw on the collection bowl on the carb it leaks fuel but runs smooth as a k

You've got an air leak somewhere. Running better with the choke closed is the clue. Air is entering somewhere else and by closing the choke you are basically adjusting the air/fuel ratio to be more correct.
With a combustible carb spray and red nozzle pipe, you can lightly spray around the carb as the engine runs and see where the running changes and that's your leak point. Keep the spray away from the carb inlet so you don't get misled.
The carb could also have gunked up gas deposits. Clean the carb also.
Re-check it.

Fuel injection problem

carb needs cleaning, you may have a air leak. spark plugs being fouled up , and might even have timing out. there is 2 jets or more in the carb if there is a problem it can weaken fuel having choke on can give it more air and fuel. depending on model of engine. on fuel in line there will be a filter, very small these can get damaged and let sludge from the tank in. clean out the carb remove it and open it up clean out and you will see brass like screws blow them out with an air line, refit with new seals, you can make them if they not available. or you a sealer thats for fuel.. air lines you can spray them while engine is running and if engine pitch changes that can be were the air leak is.

I have a 22 hp bs crafstman riding mower and it would fire off starting fluid but would not on its own. I took carb off and cleaned out and got it running but only on choke. It's a v twin and on one side...

running rich will make it run colder.....I wouldn't run it anymore til you find theproblem, it will burn your valves. air leak in your intake/carb is more than likely your problem , check for cracks in the intake manifold , leaking gaskets

I have an old stihl 020 av chainsaw, the problem I'm having is when you start it and it's running the as soon as you go to give it gas it want to bog out and die even if you just try to give it alittle gas...

Look for your choke lever and make sure that it is operating properly. When the engine is choked, the butterfly valve in the engine is across the opening, causing the engine to take less air, and more fuel. As the engine begins to warm up, there is less need for the choke to be closed. If your choke valve is remaining closed, the engine will die when you pull the trigger.

I'm having trouble locating the reason my 1989 Volvo 760 Gle starts just fine, but keeps shuting off

Most likely cause is the air mass meter also known on modern cars as the MAF sensor. check for any air leaks in the pipes also. any rips in the air pipes will choke the engine.

Hope this helps

Sumthing is wrong with the carburator

to get a good combustion inside the engine, you(engine) needs fuel-air mixture, since it leaks fuel the mixture is too rich on air. Where does the carb leak? maybe it's just the connection that leaks...I mean where the fuel line connects to the carb, If it leaks there it also sucks in extra air instead of fuel, and therefor the engine doesnt run smooth, choke or no choke, that makes no difference. Check that and if it leaks there just change out the fuel line with a new hose.
It could also be the little rubber ring that seals of the carb, If it leaks from the top of the's the little ring. Take off the top of the carb and check the condition of the ring, if faulty.. replace it with a new one.
Hope this helps....can be pretty dangerous riding around with a leaking carb... Good luck, Gilbert.
