External hard drive was dropped and now isn't recognized by my laptop. HD comes on when connected to computer, but cannot find it on computer. Need to recover my data!

If a hard drive is not recognized by your computer, there is no way to get data out of it using conventional procedures.
You should take your device to a computer repair shop and if neithe they can do anything, maybe can give you information about getting professional data recovery service... but it is EXPENSIVE.
