What other makes of attachment will fit the MtD power unit?

I have used blades from Toro on my MTD mower, found them better then the what MTD gave me ,bit stronger and cheaper. Just be carefull, when you take the blades off,do keep the 2 screws that hold the blades in place, they have different sizes depending on what brand you have, blades can be swapped but the screws and bolts can not be changed with other types. For belts etc you can use any " generic " brand, size matters but brand is not a big difference, i used belts from 40$ and 100$ , no difference what so ever. To be honest , the cheaper one is still running after 2 seasons while the expensive one snapped after one season.

Choosing the right hacksaw for your job

For every project that you want to work on, there will be a different set of tools that you will need to use. The hacksaw has different types of blades and frames that can be switched out for the different projects that you are working on.

There are three main kinds of blades that the hacksaw can use and each one has different benefits. The teeth on the hacksaw blade will range between 14 and 32 teeth per inch. The thicker the blade the fewer teeth there will be per inch on the blade. The types are regular, raker and wavy. Regular blades are good for soft metals that don't have a lot of metal and the teeth will be closed together touching and alternating left and right. The raker blade has teeth placed in sets of threes and are best used fro cutting through thick metals. The last kind of blade is called a wavy blade, on these ones the teeth are in a wave pattern that are great for making smooth cuts in hard thin metals.

When it comes to hacksaw frame types there are two types to look at the fixed frame and the adjustable frame. Fixed frames are only able to hold a blade of a single sized length of blade. The adjustable frame can hold different length blades typically between 10 and 12 inches. The blades that you will buy for a hacksaw will have holes on either end of the blade. These holes are used to attach and dettach the blades from the frame.

Whatever the blade that you are using make sure that when you are sawing through metal make sure that you go slow because rubbing metal on metal will generate a lot of heat and can spark. You can also ruin the blade on your if you are sawing too quickly.

How to fit blades correctly

Hi Stephen:
Sounds like a basic question, so will give some basic info.
- WORK SAFE - Always remove the spark plug lead before changing or working on blades on push type lawnmowers.
- ONLY REPLACE BLADES WITH SAME SIZE BLADES that have the same mounting connections.
- WEAR GLOVES - These blades are sharp, and can have nasty little pointy bits that snag skin.
- Install blades with the flat side of the cutting edge closest to the ground.
- Make sure that the correct upper and lower mounting washers are in place.
- Snug the attaching bolt in SLOWLY and make sure that any notches or gear-type teeth are properly aligned, then tighten.

What size blade duds it take

You can measure the length of the blade or take it off and go to a store and get a mulching blade it doesn't have to be a Poulan Pro
blade a generic mulching blade of the same size will work and be cheaper. Tractor supply handles a lot of different types of blades.

I need to know what size/type of jigsaw blade to purchase for my SKIL 4230 Model# F012423000.

The size and type will depend on your needs when cutting. Fortunately, this model can use both T- and U-shank blades.

My personal preference if for the T style as i find they hold better.

use this picture and info as a guide. When you go to hardware store look for a combo set for metal and wood.
metalworking will have fine teeth, woodworking will have larger teeth.

I have a black&decker brandsaw but i dont know what size blade to put on it,it is a b.d.339, ai

Its a 1512mm blade. I did a search on Dewalts Servicenet and it no longer shows, so you'll need to locate a reseller that specializes in metric blades. Its correct model number is BD339 type 1 ( no peroids). Hope this helps.

Need to change saw blade, lost instructions

1st, !!UNPLUG the saw!! Wear gloves to prevent nicks from contact with the saw blades.
If this is a handheld 'skill-saw' type saw, use a piece of wood to chock the saw blade from turning as you use a proper size socket/wrench to loosen the bolt which holds the blade.
The bolt will loosen counter-clock wise. It will probably be very tight, and you will have to use some effort to loosen it.
Remove the bolt, lift the follow guard and remove the blade.
Replace the blade with a like size diameter blade by raising the follow guard, inserting the blade, replacing the bolt, using a piece of wood to keep the blade from rotating and TIGHTEN the bolt. You will almost feel as if you need three hands to accomplish this procedure but its been done millions of successful times.

Good luck. :)
