Early automatic washers used a motor with multiple windings to provide the various speeds required by different parts of each wash programme. Modern washers use an entirely different sort of motor and the speeds are selected and controlled electronically with feedback to ensure the speed is correct.
I suspect the problem is the electronics - the part of the programmer and controller that regulates the motor speed but you should check the motor and motor brushes, the drive belt and all electrical connections as a matter of best practice before you spend money...
Could be several reasons:
- Selected the "Night cycle" program (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: too much noise in the spin cycle)
- Set to the "Rinse hold" (means standing with the drum full of water, reason: wrinkles on the clothes)
According to your description I think that this is not a failure otherwise error E20 will be appears on display.
Once the washing programme has come to an end, END illuminates on the programme progress display.
If RINSE HOLD was selected, the display beside the START/ PAUSE button flashes. 1. After a rinse hold, the water must first be pumped out:
- Either press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun according to the completed programme;
After the START/PAUSE button is pressed again, the spin speed can still also be changed during spinning), or
- Turn the programme selector to PUMP OUT and press the START/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out without spinning),or
- Turn the programme selector to SPIN or SHORT SPIN and press theSTART/PAUSE button (the water is pumped out and the washing is spun or gently spun).
At the end of this programme step, the END indicator will illuminate. 2. Open the door.
As soon as the DOOR indicator lights up green, the door can be opened.
Does water remain in the machine at the end of the wash cycle? Does the water pump run when it is supposed to? If not, the pump may be jammed with debris or the motor is defective. Can you drain the water by lowering the drain hose to floor level and into a bucket or pan? Does this allow the spin cycle to proceed? It is normal for the machine to test for spin balance (it will agitate further if it is not balanced). Hope some of this helps!
Yes, maybe you can. Does it wash OK? i.e. the drum rotates but does not spin? If so, likely to be programmer. If no rotation at all on the drum, likely to be the motor or the belt. To find out which, take top of machine off and look to see if you can see the motor pulley - if it spins when you put it on a normal wash cycle, but the drum doesn't, it's the belt and an easy cure. In general terms: Belt=easy cure. Motor=new motor not too expensive, depending on machine quality, quite often worth the price. Programmer=unless you have a top end machine like a Miele, very expensive and you are looking at a new machine. PS some machines have a switch to cut out the motor if it spins too far out of balance - these can get damaged if you had a big load in and the drum really moved a lot. Look to see if you have such a switch and check it is not damaged. It will typically be on or near one of the suspension legs.
Door lock switch # 131763245 if everything else is working fine this should fix the problem. It shorts out between the motor control board and the door lock from emptying the cycle and spinning. Try running your machine on drain/spin and see if it drains and tosses clothes and then stops with no spin. If that happens then it is your door lock.switch. Easy to replace by yourself and costs $65.00
