It my have gas but does it have enough? A small leak will not show an error code straight away but the unit will work although much less efficiently over time until it stops cooling or burns out. Get a tech to diagnose.

SOURCE: I have a Panasonic 1200 BTU air conditioner, that

the 'squeaking noise' you hear is pretty much 1 of 4 problems with the unit.

1) Most likely it's a fan motor where the bearings are going out (metal to metal is causing the squeaking). The 'fix' for this problem is to change the motor which will run around $150 if you call a repairman, maybe more depending on the motor. I've been told there are still mfc's who put motors in their units 'that can be oiled' and I'm not going to say that's not true - but I haven't seen a motor that can be oiled - in years. They (mfc's) just don't do it anymore - after all - 'we're in a throwaway society you know.

Speaking of which - it might be 'cost effective' for you to think about buying a new unit, i.e. the cost of a new unit over the cost of repairing what you have. If you spend the extra cash for a new unit - then everything is "new" especially the compressor which is the heart of any AC unit.

2) Sometimes 'compressors' will also squeak - again it's bearings that are causing the noise and if it's a compressor - then you are in big trouble and should 'seriously' start thinking about a new AC.

3) a third possibility but not very likely - and that is it could be something as simple as a fan blade/squirrel cage (the fan mtr turns a blade and usually a squirrel cage) hitting some other part of the AC in such a way where you think it's squeaking you are hearing. I doubt if this is the case but if you pull the unit and take the cover off and 'turn the unit on' you might be able to determine this (for sure) and make an adjustment/fix on the spot.

4) lastly ... here is something I've done in the past. If you have the unit out of the window and the cover off - take a look at the fan motor and see if it's possible to take a drill and drill a very small hole on each side of the motor where the bearings are encased. (Note: drill the hole 'on top' of the encasement) - Then you take a oil can/plastic bottle and try to get some oil down on the bearings. This is a long shot (having a place to drill a hole) but if you can get some oil down on the bearings (remember you have bearings on both ends of the motor) it will extend the life of the motor possibly for years.

Like I said - I've done this (successfully) in the past. The big problem is that some motors don't have the 'built up encasement of the bearings' and so it's not possible to drill anywhere.

good luck!

My panasonic air conditioner does not turn off when cooling

At what temperature is the thermostat?
The temperature should never be lower than 70?F (21?C) for the unit to operate properly. If your temperature setting is above 70?F, then your unit might have a problem with the temperature sensor that controls the "on/off" cycle on your unit. For that you will need a professional certified HVAC tech to inspect it.

Most people think that lowering the temperature to the minimum will cool the room faster, but that is not the case. Since HVAC units move the air at a specific rate, it can only transfer the temperature, thus cooling/heating the air, within those parameters. That's what the calculation for the BTU is for. Normally cooling/heating the room to the desired temperature should take about 1 hour, but some new inverter units can do it in only 30 minutes or so. Lowering the temperature constantly or even keeping it at the lowest setting may cause premature failure of the unit.

My new LG mini split 24,000 BTU unit is Freezing up on the small tube side. Not cooling properly. I thought freezing up (low on freon) but wouldnt it be on the larger tube. Is it running the fluid...

The larger tube is the return tube for the hot freon gas from the evaporator. The small tube is the cold freon after is has gone through the condenser where gas is condensed to a liquid when the heat is removed. So I would say your system is low on freon.

How many tons is my unit?

divide your btu rating by 12000. (1 ton = 12000 btu)
For example - a 24,000 BTU Air Conditioner is a 2 ton unit. 24000 divided by 12000 = 2
A 18000 btu air condtioner is a 1 1/2 ton unit 18000 divided by 12000 = 1 1/2
you can find out your btu rating by looking on the tag on your unit.

How much area can 1hp of this brand can cool

the 'rule of thumb' is 1 ton of AC for every 600 sq feet of a well insulated space (400 sq ft if not well insulated)- for example if the space to be cooled is 1200 sq ft - and is well insulated - you would require a 2 HP unit. 1200 divided by 600 = 2

if the space was not well insulated - you would require a 3 HP unit. 1200 divided by 400 = 3

note; 1 ton of air conditioning - is sometimes referred to as 1 HP or 12000 Btu. Whether you call it 1 HP or 1 Ton or 12000 Btu - they all three mean exactly the same thing.

take this example - 2 tons of air conditioning can also be referred to as 2 HP or 24000 Btu.

fyi - it doesn't matter what 'brand' - they all work off the same principle.

hope this helps

Greetings jdreisbaugh,

The tonnage is usually found on the name plate on the condensing unit outside. 12000 btu = 1 ton, 24000 = 2 ton and so forth. In your case the unit is 36000 btu, therefore a 3 ton.

I hope this helps!
