You need to supply a lot more information before this can be diagnosed.
1. What is the router name and model?
2. Who is your internet provider?
3. What type of internet connection is it? Cable, DSL, wireless, satellite, other?
4. What are the symptoms, i.e. frequency of drops, time of day, duration?

Since getting a new Dell laptop and Linksys E1000 (also have HP desktop), my internet connection keeps dropping (no problems ever before)- sometimes I can stay online for 2-3 hours or it can go in 15...

Hi,

we need to first figure out whether it the modem or the router which is dropping the connection.

Please connect one of your computer directly to the modem, by pass the router and access the internet. If the connection drops then its the modem which is dropping the connection and you need to contact your isp to check it.

If the internet works fine directly with the modem then its your router which is dropping the connection. To fix the router we can upgrade it firmware.

To upgrade the firmware please visit the link below;
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys/E1000

Note; If you are not comfortable upgrade the firmware then don’t do it. If not done properly then it can damage your router.

My router (d-link WBR-1310) keeps dropping internet every 10-15

Try to access the configuration page of your router and look for channel number. Change the channel number to 11 or 13 whichever is available. It should work fine after that. If it still does not work, you can hard reset it by pressing the reset switch on the router. However, then, you will have to configure all the settings again.

My laptop keeps getting dropped from internet connection. the only way to get it back, is to unplug cable from modem then replug. this resolves problem temporally. this keeps on happening. i've tried...

Does your modem also drop, or just when you use your router? If it drops when not using a router, your cable company can check your modem for you. They will not help with your router unless you got it from them. See if it stays up when you are plugged in directly to the modem.

On the router's Setup Page / User Interface, adjust the MTU to 1400 and choose the option Keep Alive. That's under SETUP tab.
