First, make sure you have the bobbin placed correctly in the bobbin case. There should be a diagram showing the correct placement and thread path. Your upper tension should be set at "3." Then be sure the needle is inserted correctly...the groove should be toward the front of the machine. And just to be sure, recheck the upper threading. Sometimes one missed little thread guide will cause the problem you're describing. I hope this helps and that you can get your machine running again!

I don't think that you do have it set up correctly, try again. Make sure that you have the path right, go around the little button and out again, then make sure that you have it pushed to the right and you hold the thread end to get started. Another thing to make sure is that you have the thread unwinding the right way. I had a student that had it unwinding with no resistance and couldn't figure out what was wrong and that was it. I know it sounds crazy but it happened, just the same. If that doesn't work, call Singer in the morning, 1-800-4singer and report it right away so if it is defective you can get a new machine. It is very hard to diagnose without actually seeing it, I hope that I am right and you can get it going because it looks like a nice machine. You can download your manual for free, at www.singerco.com under support, and enter 7470, also go under customer resources and look at operation basics. Sorry, this is so long but I want you to be able to start sewing and having fun.

It should be under warranty, take it to where you bought it, if after trying a different electrical outlet, and making sure that the cord is plugged in correctly, it still does not turn on, You could have a defective cord.

there will be a programme function that you will need to go through, probably entering a numeral for each letter you want stitched, then probably pressing a memory key, you should end up with a sequence of letters on the screen, you'll need to then press the foot pedal to stitch it out.
