SOURCE: Windows Failed to start

Windows Start-up Errors
Step one, you need a Windows XP CD. If you only have a recovery disk set like the ones from HP or Compaq they will not do what you need done. Under normal circumstances however, you can use a Dell disk because the Operating system is on a stand-alone disk. All retail versions are also acceptable as well as upgrade disks. For a rule of thumb, if the disk has the Microsoft hologram it should work. You can order a boot up floppy disk from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 with this file, if you know how, you can use “ImageBurn” to burn the file into an ISO file which can be burned to a disk. Now make sure your computer boots to the cd rom first. If you know how to do this skip on down, if you don’t, while the computer is first starting up and you see the manufacturers splash screen, tap F12 (some computers it’s F9, others it may be another key, you may have to watch and see if the computer lists the key strokes for getting to the boot menu. If you still cannot find it, boot into the BIOS settings and change your boot order there. Save your settings and exit, the computer will now seek the cd rom as its boot source first.
Place your Windows disk in the computer and start it up. When you see the test at the top of the page “Press Any Key To Boot From CD” Just hit the space bar to activate. The next screen you will see will most likely be a Windows setup screen, when you see this press the “R” key to get to the recovery console. It will get there, it may take a little time, patience. Once it loads you will be given a choice of Windows installations, there should only be one, if there are more, always pick number one. It may ask for an administrators password, if you have not set this particular password, then just leave it blank and press enter. The next prompt you see is:
C:\Windows>
You need to type the following:
cd \
hit enter. Pay close attention to the spacing between the characters. There is a space between the character “d” and the “\”
You are now at the ROOT of the drive, this is where basic commands can be given and changed. You should now see the following:
C:\>
Now type the following:
CHKDSK /R
Hit the enter key.
The chkdsk /r command also includes the P command and will also look for lost recoverable information in bad sectors.
There are occasions depending on how corrupt the system is, that this process could take several hours, so be patient with it.
Now, after chkdsk has run type the following:
FIXBOOT
Hit the enter key.
It may prompt you with a warning, that’s ok, just continue. When fixboot has finished, type: EXIT hit enter and windows will reboot. When the system reboots, tap the F8 key during this time and you will see the multi-boot menu come up. Scroll to the title “Last Know Good Configuration” and hit the enter key. If you were having some simple drive errors this should have fixed them.

Try F8 and safe mode or if that doesn't work, insert your OS disc and try to repair your OS, then check the hdd for errors, if it is not too late!

Accer aspire 5715z problem file boot/bcd

It seems that the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is corrupted.
Microsoft has completely reengineered the boot environment for Microsoft Windows Vista to address the increasing complexity and diversity of modern hardware and firmware. One aspect of this reengineering is a new firmware-independent data store that contains configuration data that influences the boot process. This paper provides an overview of this configuration data - called boot configuration data (BCD) - and describes how to use the related tools to manage boot options.
Step 1
Perform chkdsk which will repair the bad sectors of the hard drive.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2. Type chkdsk/ f, chkdsk/r, chkdsk/i, chkdsk/c in the commands listed below i.e. (/f, /r , /i, /c).
Step 2
Try to load BIOS to default and check if you have similar issue.
Step 3
I would suggest you to rebuilt BCD. To do this, follow these steps:
To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you must start Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
  2. Press a key when you are prompted.
  3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
  4. Click Repair your computer.
  5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
  6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
  7. Type Bootrec.exe, and then press ENTER.
8. Type bootrec /RebuildBcd , and press Enter.

My rebooted my advent 4211-b netbook to factory setting by the tech guys on the netbook but now my netbook wont start up, it says the window boot configuration data file does not contain a valid os entry

Welcome to Fixya

Error means the boot files are missing or damaged. Try to restore the computer using the disk that came with it instead of using the recovery console.

Thank you for using Fixya!

Advent netbook wont start up after being rebooted it say the windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid os entry

Problem is generally caused by a disk error. If you can connect the disk to another computer and run CHKDSK /F it might fix it.
Hope this information will help.
Your response is very much appreciated. Thank you for using Fixya...

BOOTMGR IS COMPRESSED

Validate and Fix the File System
This runs the check disk program to detect and attempt to repair problems on one partition. For example, to repair the C: drive:
At the prompt type chkdsk c: /r
Repair the Boot Process
Typically this is used if Windows doesn't start and you can't get to the safe mode menu. You might also replace the Master Boot Record (MBR) and boot sector if you suspect a virus infection. There are four options:
New MBR - Insert a new generic MBR without changing the partition table.
At the prompt, type: bootrec /FixMbr
New Boot Sector - Insert a new Windows 7/Vista compatible boot sector. It will automatically insert the right type of sector for the file system type (NTFS, FAT32, etc.)
At the prompt, type: bootrec /FixBoot Rebuild BCD - Rebuild the Boot Configuration Data (BCD). The BCD controls which partition boots. This option will let you select which installations to include in the BCD.
At the prompt, type: bootrec /RebuildBcd Find OSes - Scan the system for all OS installations that are compatible with Vista/2008 and will also show those that are currently included in the BCD.
At the prompt, type: bootrec /ScanOs
in the end type in C:/expand bootmgr temp
