Question about Bernina Sewing Machines

How to remove on/off knob and feed dog up/down knob on Bernina 1130 - do they just prise off and push back on?

This question is in response to an answer to a previous question re: a high pitched squeaky noise on the machine, given by Peter Jones a big thank you!!. I am just about to attempt to do the oiling as you instructed but am not quite sure about the removal / replacement of the knobs in order to remove the side cover. I've never takem them off in the past.

Both of these knobs simply pull off.

On my 1030 (which has only the on/off knob), you can get your fingernails behind the edge and pull; it's not on very firmly.

Give the oiling a go. At the very worst, you'll have to take it to a technician to fix but you are unlikely to break anything but be mindful of the screws underneath when you retighten them - the nuts into which they screw are only held by thin plastic on the cover.

The feed dog on my bernina 1130 is not working. IT will not pull the fabric.

Even if you select a longer stitch? Have the feed dogs been dropped for darning? Otherwise, your mechanical machine may be seizing due to old oil that has solidified.

Feed dogs do not drop for darn Bernina 831

Old oil has dried and is causing parts to seize. Feed dogs are a frequent indicator of this condition. Stitch selectors also tend to be affected. Eventually, the needlebar will seize and the machine will totally stop.

Where is the feed dog lever on my bernina record 830 sewing machine

On the Bernina 830 Record (older mechanical model), it is usually the very bottom knob on the right side (directly below the Stitch Length Lever). It should turn right or left about a quarter turn to switch between feed dogs up or down. If the knob is frozen, then it has seized due to old dried oil (a common occurrence with older mechanical machines that have not been serviced regularly). Stuck feed dogs, stitch selectors, buttonhole knobs, and the handwheel are some of the most frequent victims of seizure. However, with lots of patience, time, fresh good quality sewing machine oil or liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube, elbow grease and a handheld hairdryer, these issues can usually be successfully addressed.

I have a bernina 1130 the feed dogs have dropped and will not feed fabric. I have make sure on the right knobs that it isn't on with dogs down mode. Please advise as to problems to look for.

If it were mechanical, my suggestion would be to oil, but this is a computerized machine. The manual instructs to only oil the hook/shuttle area.

There are some excellent Bernina groups on Yahoo Groups. One is "BerninaThirtySomethings" that has quite a few very knowledgeable Bernina users and some techs who may be able to provide some suggestions. You will need a Yahoo email account, search for the Bernina groups, and then request to be added. Once added, you can post your questions.

the feed dogs need to be checked to see if they are in the up position or not, If they are up then they will have to be checked to see what wrong with them, if they are down try using the lever or knob to push them up.

Bernina 1130 feed dogs won't feed fabric

On a Bernina 1130 the power on-off knob and the feed dog raise and lower knob look similar and are next to each other on the end of the machine, making it easy to lower the dog assembly entirely, without realizing it. Make sure you didn't accidentally lower the entire feed dog assembly by turning the feed dog knob: you can tell as you turn it if the dogs are up or down. On the Bernina 1130 the knob, like the power should be in the horizontal position to be working both feed and power.

Bernina 1008 feed dog problem.

Your machine needs oiling. The feeddogs are stuck. Could be in several places. You would have to remove the back and side covers to get to what needs cleaning and oiling. Especially behind that knob. Just removing the covers is a job so I can't recommend you do this unless your trained. But you can try. Don't forget the screws beneith the machine. But really, there is too much behind the handwheel for a novice to deal with. Maybe see if you can just let some sewing machine oil just run down behind the feedog knob and work it alot.
Good luck.
