With no medical knowledge don't start this. Not only you cause unnecessary pain, but you risk it will never grow in place and your friend will be crippled for the rest of his life.
When you are far from all medical help, you should have learned first aid and should pull the broken part so when released it will come straight. and then it should get something like sticks around the leg and the sticks should be kept together with bandage. I once did it myself, after a motor accident and the surgeon was not pleased. They had to operate me for 3 hours, because there was muscle between both bone parts. Took me a year to recover from that. And I'm not joking.

My lower leg was run over by a car, told no broken bones ,4 days later having extreme pain, burning, and blisters around ankle, with redness and hot touch, numb toes , now pain back of my knee.

The compression of the muscle has caused "compartment syndrome" In other words the swelling is causing damage and you need to seek medical attention right now if you want to save that leg.

We take turns replacing microwave ovens where I work. The latest one, a GE JES1358WL, stopped working after opening the door while running on a one-push (1 minute) start setting, and the control panel is...

Sounds like part of the peg broke off and is left inside the recepter slot area where the sensor switch is. If it is the lower door plastic hook thing (inside bottom) that broke off, it is possible to re-attatch it to the door if you save the broken piece. Drill a small hole the size of a small wire or nail you have lying around to make a splint - Cut the nail or wire to about 1/2" to use it as a hidden "bone" or skeletal support inside the broken plastic. Glue the nail half way into the broken plastic using modelers glue. Closely align the nail peg to where the plastic broke off and mark it for drilling. Drill carefully making sure you are centered so that your wire "bone" will allow proper alignment of your plastic. Insert the pinned piece into the newly drilled hole checking for alignment, if it looks close enough you can glue it in place and you should have a strong enough repair. Dangerous to use a wooden peg to fool the internal switch. As it will be running even when the door is open and you don't want to get zapped.

VGB3 leg lock broke

On the velbon vgb 3, the leg locks consist of a lever, one or two pieces of metal and a plastic piece. The metal and plastic pieces rest in a depression against the lever. When the lever is pulled out, pressure against the smaller leg section is released. When the lever is pushed in, pressure against the smaller leg section is exerted, locking the legs in place. On the back side of each joint, there is a phillips head screw which acts as a stop to keep the leg section from coming all the way out. When the screw is backed out, the leg section can be removed, exposing the latching mechanism. If the only problem is that the latch mechanism came apart, it can simply be reassembled. If, however, something broke and allowed the latch assemby to come apart, that will have to be dealt with as well. My guess is that the phillips screw may have become loose, and the latch came apart.
