The letter said that "under the Affordable Care Act, anyone on Medicare who is admitted to a hospital for observation will be responsible for the bill. Medicare won't pay a cent."

That’s wrong. Medicare will cover the hospital stay, minus standard copayments and the like. Patients kept in the hospital under observation will not be able to receive Medicare reimbursements for follow-up care such as nursing-home stays, however.

Even more inaccurate is the charge that this policy stemmed from the Affordable Care Act. In reality, this stems from a separate policy decision and had nothing to do with Obama’s law. The claim is not only ridiculous but also dangerous, by urging ailing patients to leave the hospital for no good reason.

I currently have health insurance $469.00 per month and need to go to a cheaper option. What do I get free as I am a senior citizen ?

If you are a senior citizen, you should know by now, nothing is ever free. Ha Ha. But seriously, you don't say your exact age or where you are located. If you are in the United States and a citizen or permanent resident, you will qualify for Medicare Part A at age 65. If you worked in the US, you had FICA taxes withheld from your pay and this is part of what those FICA taxes were for. If the coverage is not as substantial as you like, you have the option to purchase medicare supplements which will offer additional coverage. If you are low income, you may qualify for medicaid but if you've been able to pay $469/month, it's unlikely your income is low enough to qualify. There is also the Obamacare health plans which you can check on the governments health care exchange which may offer subsidies (paid for by taxpayers) to help reduce what you have to pay for health insurance. Just be careful before purchasing one that you understand what you are getting, many of these plans have very high deductibles and coinsurance making them almost useless.

I have read that medicare will not pay for cancer treatment for seniors over the age of 76 after 2018 as dictated by Obamacare,, is that true????

Definitely not true. But the type of Medicare insurance you have could determine your out of pocket expenses should you need cancer treatments. Most Medicare "Advantage" plans leave you paying 20% for outpatient services (this would include chemo and radiation) up to the maximum annual out of pocket amount. In 2017, $6,700 is the most you would pay out of pocket. Under Medigap Plans, such as Plan F, N, or G, that 20% is paid by the plan.
