On my Windows Server 2012 print server the clients cannot print and get "no page selected" error.

Unfortunately, the DTC550 is in its end-of-life phase of support by the manufacturer (HID Global/Fargo), as of Dec. 15, 2014. There is not a driver or support available for Windows Server 2012.

You MAY be able to configure as a shared device via a separate workstation print host/server, using a supported OS:

  • Win 2000/XP
  • Win 2003 Server
  • Windows 7

  • Windows Server 2008 x64

The Web server (running the Web Site) encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request by the client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) for access to the requested URL.
This is a 'catch-all' error generated by the Web server. Basically something has gone wrong, but the server can not be more specific about the error condition in its response to the client. In addition to the 500 error notified back to the client, the Web server should generate some kind of internal error log which gives more details of what went wrong. It is up to the operators of the Web server site to locate and analyse these logs.

500 errors in the HTTP cycle

Any client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) goes through the following cycle when it communicates with the Web server:
  • Obtain an IP address from the IP name of the site (the site URL without the leading 'http://'). This lookup (conversion of IP name to IP address) is provided by domain name servers (DNSs).
  • Open an IP socket connection to that IP address.
  • Write an HTTP data stream through that socket.
  • Receive an HTTP data stream back from the Web server in response. This data stream contains status codes whose values are determined by the HTTP protocol. Parse this data stream for status codes and other useful information.
This error occurs in the final step above when the client receives an HTTP status code that it recognises as '500'. (Last updated: March 2012).

Fixing 500 errors - general

This error can only be resolved by fixes to the Web server software. It is not a client-side problem. It is up to the operators of the Web server site to locate and analyse the logs which should give further information about the error.

Please contact us (email preferred) whenever you encounter 500 errors on your CheckUpDown account. We then have to liaise with your ISP and the vendor of the Web server software so they can trace the exact reason for the error. Correcting the error may require recoding program logic for the Web server software, which could take some time.

I installed the printer and share it. It is only available to user who are on x64bit. user with 32 bit win xp cant access it and install/share it. I have tried to download and install x86 driver but...


This is the HP solution for the problem


HP LaserJet, Color LaserJet and LaserJet MFP Products - Print driver Client / Server Connections in a mixed 32-bit and 64-bit environment ISSUE: 32-bit clients are not able to connect to shared Universal Print drivers or discrete drivers on a 64-bit print server or vice-versa. These scenarios may involve Server 2003/Server 2008 64-bit print servers with Windows XP, Vista, 7 32-bit clients. It is also possible that the server editions could be 32-bit versions with 64-bit clients. SOLUTION:
  1. The administrator will need to download the 64-bit AND 32-bt version of the print driver from www.hp.com . If the server involved is a 64-bit version, the 64-bit version of the print driver will need to be installed and mapped to the printer via TCP/IP. Ensure that the print driver has been shared on the network by going to the print driver properties and enabling Share this printer within the Sharing tab. c02030528.gif

    Ensure that communication has been established and that a driver test page can be printed from the 64-bit server. Once functionality has been confirmed from the 64-bit server, proceed to the next step.

  2. Currently, 64-bit clients will be able to connect to the shared 64-bit print driver that has been installed on the 64-bit server as the architecture currently matches. However, if 32-bit clients wish to map to the shared 64-bit print driver on the 64-bit server, the 32-bit version of the same driver will need to be installed within the current 64-bit driver.
    This process can be done by navigating to the printer properties of the 64-bit driver on the 64-bit server, clicking the Sharing tab and clicking the Additional Drivers button. c02030529.gif

  3. Once the administrator clicks on the Additional Drivers button, the next screen will allow the administrator to load the 32-bit drivers by placing a checkmark in the x86 button and clicking the OK button. c02030530.gif
  4. Once the administrator clicks the OK button, a print driver window will pop-up asking for the 32-bit driver components. Again, the administrator will need to download, and extract the 32-bit version of the print driver on the 64-bit server. Once the window below comes up, the administrator will need to navigate to the 32-bit driver components and select the appropriate driver .inf file.
    For example, the UPD .inf file would be the first file in the list and be named hpcuXXXc.inf. c02030531.gif

    Once the appropriate .inf file is selected, the 32-bit driver components will be installed within the 64-bit driver on the 64-bit server. This can be verified as both x86 (32-Bit) and x64 (64-Bit) boxes will now be checked and show the status as installed by clicking the Additional Drivers button compared to the screenshot in Step 3 above.

  5. Now that 64-Bit and 32-Bit drivers have been loaded onto the 64-Bit server, 32-Bit and 64-Bit clients can now navigate to the shared print driver on the 64-Bit server, by manually navigating to the shared print driver on the 64-Bit server from the client machine. Typically the path is \\servername\sharedprintername.

  6. Once the client maps to the shared print driver, printing should work successfully.

    For problems or errors that continue to occur after completing the aforementioned process, ensure that the latest version of the print drivers are being used www.hp.com . If there are problems with older discrete drivers, it is recommended to use the latest version of the Universal Print Driver which can be found at www.hp.com/go/upd .

I believe you have to identify the accesories that are on the copier. I think you go to the printers section of the control panel on Windows. Right click the copier, select properties, then device settings. Look to see if you can change any of the options. If not you may have to reinstall the print drivers. Hope this helps.

Print jobs get stuck in the queue


OK - all the answer posts on HP sites, Experts Exchange and MS have been a joke to this problem so far. HP 10xx series LaserJet printers do not work (well) in a shared environment. I have found two solutions to this problem. If you really don't understand shares/printing/services/firewall exceptions - don't bother trying this - buy a networked printer when the toner runs out of the HP10xx.
If you want to spend a few hours or about $100 for a print server/NAS device, read on... I HAVE an HP1022 shared on a Windows XP Pro SP3 machine serving as a print server to a Vista laptop, a Windows 7 desktop and a Mac-Mini running OS X 10.6.x. ALL are working.
1. Buy a network print server device (or a NAS device with an included print server - I picked up a Buffalo LS-CHL 1TB and it worked out of the box. I AM NOT ENDORSING BUFFALO NAS servers, they get horrible reviews and you may end up having the same problem down the road due to the NAS device) In this case, your print clients (Win7, Vista, XP, MacOS X) can use a traditional SMB Windows client to print or the BETTER solution is to use the print services for Unix client that comes with Windows but is not installed by default. Both clients work, you may have fewer problems down the road using the Unix (LPR) client. See http://www.alexfalkenberg.com/2009/10/06/linkstation-windows-printing-problem-solved/ This is an excellent article on the Buffalo - BUT THE SOLUTION works in a native windows environment as well.
2. Build on the idea from number 1 above and INSTALL the LPDSVC (friendly name TCP/IP print services) on the machine with the printer LOCALLY attached through USB. You will also have to open up some firewall ports on the machine you are using as a print server if you have one running... I used a program exception (C:\WINDOWS\system32\tcpsvcs.exe) but you could lock this down to 1 TCP port if you wish - I think TCP 515 but you'd better check on this one...) Share the printer as normal. Next install the "Print Services for Unix" CLIENT on the machines you want to connect to the printer remotely from. When you connect to the printer share from the clients, select a LOCAL port, create a NEW PORT, select LPR, use the hostname or the IP of your machine acting as a print server and the NAME OF THE SHARE as the queue. (I don't like to have spaces in my share names, so I used HPLaserJet when I set up the share and description.) You will HAVE TO INSTALL THE RIGHT Printer driver locally on each client. This might be easiest just plugging in the printer with a USB cable since the HP printer driver is an installer as well and wants it to be connected locally unless you can extract the driver...)
Sorry I can't give more details than this. If you don't get the jist of what I am saying above. Don't try it. Give up and call the plumber.

I have two different domains that are connected via VPN connection through two routers. I can ping from domain to domain via IP address on clients and servers. However I can only do a net view command on...


So you verified ICMP traffic isn't blocked and it appears the servers allow the netBios traffic to pass.

On the client machine, check to make sure the windows print and file sharing is installed and the machine isn't blocking netBios traffic.

Make sure TCP ports 137,139, and 445 are open on the xp machine and any devices in between.

It's acting like the TCP data is being blocked by the client machine.

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Lotus Applications, and then click Lotus Notes. Because this is the first time you have run Lotus Notes, the Lotus Notes Client Configuration Wizard starts. Click Next.
  2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
  3. When prompted, type in the name you set up for the user ID for Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes and enter the name of the user's home/mail Domino server. Select I want to connect to a Domino server. Click Next.
  4. On the How Do You Want to Connect to a Domino Server page, select Set up a connection to a local area network (LAN), and then click Next.
  5. On the Domino Server Network Information page, in the Domino server name text box, type the name of the Lotus Domino server that will act as a bridgehead between Exchange Server 2003 and Lotus Domino. In the Please provide specific network information to help locate this server dialog box, select TCP/IP. In the Server address field, type the hostname or IP address for the Domino server listed above, and then click Next. This server should be the one that you configured earlier.
  6. When asked if you want the User ID file copied to your data directory, click Yes.
  7. Type in the password for the user ID file.
  8. If prompted to set up Instant Messaging, clear the Setup instant messaging check box, and then click Next.
  9. On the Additional Services page, click Next.
  10. You will receive a message that indicates that Notes setup is complete. Click OK.
  11. Verify that the selected location is set to Office (should be displayed in the lower-right corner of the Notes client). If not, select the name displayed there and then choose the Office location.
  12. Exit Lotus Notes.
