Not the carbs, not the fuel pumps, maybe the fuel delivery volumes to the carbs by the fuel pumps. A restriction can cause the engine to suck the carburators fuel bowls dry if not enough volume of fuel is delivered. Do a fuel volume test

Hi Jack

We had this type of issue with our Honda 15 a couple of years ago.
Does the motor run properly with the engine cover off? If so, it is likely that the exhaust coupling where it bolts to the block has corroded causing an exhaust leak and the motor is trying to burn its own exhaust. That's where I'd start troubleshooting.

Hope this helps.

My onan 4.0 generator will not idle and is back fireing while trying to run it will run fine for ten min then starts trying to die and starts back fireing when I try to keep it running

check for a faulty sump oil switch . check for faulty coil ( magneto on the flywheel) as the time it runs suggests that it is breaking down internally.

I cant get my a985 F250 to stay running, bought a new Carb, bought a new ignition control module, new coil

Check the wiring from the ignition switch . When you got fuel as the engine was cranking then the power for the pump is on the start side of the ignition switch and not in conjunction with the run side of the switch.. IT could be a fuse in the run circuit or a faulty pump relay.

If you can spray carb cleaner in the carb then you have either a fuel supply problem or fuel delivery problem. Check your fuel pressure and make sure it is in spec. Then check the spray in the carb spray.

Engine stalled out, would not start, pour gas in carb, cranks, keeps running, until idle falls below 12to1500rpm,than stalls out again and will not crank, repeat gas or starting fluid in carb, cranks runs and...

This truck is fuel injected, the problem sounds like a weak fuelpump, it runs when you pour gas into it until that gas runs out, the first thing is to test the fuel preasure, if the pump is weak it may run with gas poured into it but wont idle, also a common problem is the coolant temp sensor and the ground wires to thermostat housing bolt but i wont bet its the pump inside the fuel tank, if you put a fuel gauge on it there should be at least 55-61 psi if its a few pounds lower it can cause problems, you have everything else and it runs with gas poured so its a fuel problem check the preasure, theres a valve up top on the fuel line to connect a fuel gauge to it, start there hope this is helpful.

2.8 engine Would start when cool, but stall after

89 cierra? It should be DIS ignition so you can't have the timing too high. You said it has fuel and spark. Fuel pressure and injection pulse. Does it try to start if you spray carb cleaner into it?

Sounds like you either have the float level set too high or you have debris getting into the needle and seat. To clear needle, disconnect the fuel line and divert it into a large container and allow the engine to run 'till it runs out of fuel in the carb and stalls. (use a length of rubber fuelline attached to the steel line to do this) Once it stalls, re-connect the line to the carb and re-start engine. The new fuel rushing into the carb shouls clear any debris.
If that fails to work, remove the top half of the carb (you can do that on the car) and check that the float is not adjusted too high and manually clear the needle valve.
I generally remove the stock filter in the inlet and use a larger plastic or metal inline filter in the line itself. Just make sure you locate it somewhere where it won't get really hot or interfere with anything that moves (alt, drivebelt etc).
Needing to prime the carb does not indicate a flooding condition though if it's running out of fuel, while running to empty carb, check the flow rate. It should pump about a half gallon of fuel into the container before it stalls.
Pressure should be about 5-7lbs running. Also check that the line to the tank isn't leaking. If it is, it will **** in air and stall the engine for lack of fuel. The mechanical pump and lines are a very simple system...something I mentioned here has got to help you!
good luck and if you have any follow up questions I'll be happy to help!

1997 crown victoria is haveing a hard time starting/ stalls... rev up stalls... could it be coil packs? or fuel pump? once it is started and been running for the day it will usually start without problem.

its not likley to be coil packs or it would not start and run at all,, it could be fuel pump, or its letting the fuel run back to the tank when its been standing so when you try starting its running on whats in the carb untill the pump brings up more fuel all the way from the tank??? have a look at the fuel tank is the vent blocked???? try leaving the tank filler cap off? naughty yes! but if the vents blocked the car will run just fine after doing this,,, have a look at the fule pipes any holes in them witch would also let fuel run back to the tank and also let in air so the pump is pushing air as well as fuel and working twice as hard as it need to,,i cant think of any more right now,
hope this helps you out

I have a 1985 honda 200s that can run for a while but stalls out after riding for a couple of hours and i was wondering if it does that cause it over heats or something. and if there is any way i can...

When you stall out ... do you still have spark? Couple ways to check ... best way might be to carry a spare plug in your pocket.

I wouldnt think gas is your problem. Id be looking at your coil(s). You might remove your tank temporarly to see if there is something there that would block cooling air or something there that might be shorting the coil out because it heated up or swelled because of heat ... clean the coil exterion real well with a electric spray cleaner. Look at your auto parts store for such cleaner.

A long shot ... maybe your points are set too close and are closing up at high temperature. Check the gap and reset if necessary.

How long after it stalls can you get going again? Your fuel is gravity fed, correct? (No fuel pump) If it were a carb problem, I would suspect the problem to show up sooner in your ride.

You might want to put some carb cleaner in your fuel just because. Discuss with the counter man at your parts place.

Let me know what happens
