It is very common to have the squelch on the receiver set at full or much too high. With the audio output unplugged or at least turned all the way down, and with the transmitter turned off, locate the squelch control - you may need a screwdriver depending on which model of receiver you have. Turn the squelch control counter-clockwise until the TX light turns on, then turn it back up just past the point where it turns back off.
If you turn it all the way down and the TX light doesn't come on, that's okay. If you get blasts of noise occasionally when the transmitter is turned off, then set the squelch a little (only a little) higher until it stops.

SOURCE: vocal problem
hi there..if there is video and background audio coming out from the TV, and no voice recognition from the mic- then mic is the problem. I believed the problem is the "voice coil". This is a part that can be replaced- you can contact me and we can repair that.
two ways to check
remove the mic ball
the part which the mic ball is is covering is the voice coil.
try holding both terminals (black and white wire)- if there is feedback sound- it is open and need to be replaced
try using your tester- test the impedance- there should be 500- 600 ohms reading

SOURCE: NO BACKGOUND VOCALS
Hi im joe,
Regarding your concern the ET 3000 magic sing does not have background vocals at all. The manufacturer design the magic sing for sing along purposes only but they are now improving there future products to have that feature with background vocals.

If its really broken then you will need some help by a service engineer or perhaps someone with good diy mic know how can help .. On the vocal question, small and large condensers can be used but at the typical close miking distance of voice a pop shield needs to be used..This will ensure pops[ horrid bbooobbwww!! type noises from breath/wind hitting the capsule..proper name is plosives ] also the pop shoild will protect the capsule from spit etc etc.. You can make a pop shield [ a good one ] with tights and a coat hanger..google DIY pop shield or something..or buy one.. Oh and small diaphram condensers are rarely used for vocals but are capable of good results depending on source/room/placement etc.. Hope you get the mic working soon..got a garantee ???
