Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Blu-ray unit won't power up. Any suggestions?

We experienced an electrical storm and although the system was connected to a surge protector it will no longer power up. Is there an internal fuse/breaker? It's out of warranty so any recommended repair?

It will not hert you to unplug the unit and open it up, inspect the unit for any type of burning, or the smell of burned parts, if it does have a fuse it will be located near the power supple where the cord goes into the unit. remove all screws, some screws maybe hidden behind stickers that say quality control stickers.

you mite try unplugging the unit for a few hours, try a different outlet in the power strip, resetting the power strip default button. i do not think the blu-ray has reset.

My Sony KDL-46V3000 television HDMI ports no longer worked following a thunderstorm, and a factory/power reset did not fix the problem. Do you know what board I need to replace (GF1,DF2,DF3)?

A nearby electrical storm can cause a voltage surge in the mains electrical supply or a very close storm could send a discharge along the antenna downlead and either way the ultra-sensitive CMOS logic chips are likely to be damaged. Such chips are likely to be found throughout a modern tv.

These days a tv is less a television and more computer and should always be used with a surge protector though these cannot provide full protection.

I suggest you entrust diagnosis to an experienced engineer in order to reduce the frustration and expense to a minimum.

Not enough information.
Is the unit receiving power and do you have a power LED ?
Is your power connection to a surge protector or power cube.?

How old is the unit ? Has it been dropped or in a electrical storm or outage ?

After an electrical storm the vcr combo do not come on

johngreen,

Unfortunately this is a worst case scenario. Electrical storms with electrical surges can wreak havoc on all electrical devices if they are not protected with a surge protector. The bad thing is it will cost to more money to have the board replaced as opposed to buying another unit. In the future it is best to invest in a surge protector and protect all your electronic devices. Thanks for visiting FixYa.com.

After an electrical storm my Acer m1640 has no power although the mains power lead is intact. Are there any internal fuses that could have blown

Hi,
Sorry, no fuses. Lightning is a major cause of computer failure. Failure could be a power supply, motherboard, processor or the whole system.

Next time get your computer a good surge protector. They are cheap and protect your computer from electrical mishaps.

Unit WILL NOT Turn ON

Although power cord is permanently attached, connections inside machine have broken off (from personal experience)from moving or jiggling. Unplug machine then check and see. That is, unless you are getting an "ON" red or green light when your machine ON. A question, did you have a power outage? In case you had one,and power is restore, the voltage surge can fry almost any electrical components including computer, refrigerator, freezer etc. Solution? ...a good surge protector.
