check the fuek lines for hole and leaks, check the fuel filter and clean if necessary. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if it seems hard or brittle replace it. clean the carb with carb cleaner sray (available at any local auto parts store) and compressed air. make sure you get inside the small fuel rail holes. check the primer bulb for pin holes and seating/sealed properly. if that doesn't work have the carb repaired at a service center or replaced.

Mantis has the owners manuals in pdf format available for download on its website. The tillers are here (I hope the link to the tiller group works...if not, just go to the main site and look for "owners manuals" link.
Also, you can call a number and get a representative who usually can help at the numbers listed there, find authorized service people if its not something you can do yourself, order parts and find detailed schematics in the owners manuals. My dog actually ate mine. LOL. But they are free, the owners manuals, unlike other places that charge you for them like they were a "part".

Check the exhaust side of the tiller. There are 3 screws on the muffler cover that need to be removed, then there is a cover on the spark arrestor that also has 3 screws to remove. Inside this is a small screen (the spark arrestor). Take it out and clean it with a good solvent (I use carb cleaner). This is the easiest and least expensive fix.
If this doesn't work you may need to rebuild the carb. I have found it is easier and costs about the same thing to just replace the complete carb.
The company will tell you to make sure you always run the carb dry before storage, but I have NEVER done that as I believe it dries out the gaskets. I just use STA-BIL gasoline stabilizer before I store it for the Winter and keep it setting level in storage.

Carburetor problem. Two stroke engines use oil mixed with gas. Old fuel or setting over the winter will cause varnish and sludge in the Carburetor. Start by buying a can of carburetor cleaner and mixing a new can of fuel.
1) Dump the old fuel and check replace it with new.
2) Remove the air cleaner.
3) Pump the prime bulb 3 or 4 times, set the choke, spray the insides of the carb with the cleaner and then try and start it . It should sputter and run for a few second but chances are it will take a few sprays to clean the jets
