Question about Farberware FCP280 Automatic 8c.Coffee Percolator

Open Question

What is the function of the ceramic piece on the pump stem of an old Farberware automatic percolator? Also, how do you know if the pot has a warming element/feature?

I am in the market for an 8 cup Farberware automatic percolator and searching for a used one online. I noticed some of them have a ceramic piece wrapped around the pump stem--what is this for? I own a 4 cup FBW pot and it does not have this piece on the stem. Also I've noticed some of the listings advertise a warming feature, and some do not, but there is not a dial or setting for keep warm on any of the pots. How do you know if it has this, or do they all have it? Thanks!

SOURCE: 3 prong plugs becoming loose

Wrap some electrical tape around the plug tightly , just enough so that the plug fits snugly.

Can you buy a thermostat for 4 c. Faberware coffee pots? If so, from what site? I have three that don't keep coffee hot. I know the pots are good but I am tired of buying new ones for the same problem.

First thing you should do is check the washer on the bottom of the pump stem.
johnc94.jpg
Check to make sure the washer can move freely (it's not unusual for it to get gunked up. Try putting a flat-blade screwdriver under it and GENTLY prying upwards all around. Spray with a small amount of WD-40, and then run a few brew cycles with just water to get rid of the WD-40. In many cases, this will restore proper operation of the unit.

If not, there are a number of places online from which to purchase replacement parts for Farberware percolators. One is repairshack.com. If your percolators were made before 1998, you'll want the "old style" thermostat, part#P04-056:

If instead they were made after 1998, you'll need the new style, part#P04-303:

Percolator not working

The problem is the keep warm element. The reason, your pot perc's and it gets hot near the thermo, the thermo turns off the main element. The keep warm element is not on so after a small amount of time the water cools and the thermo turns the main element back on again, thus making the water hot. The K W element is supposed to be on all the time the pot is plugged in, it is instrumental in perking the first brew making it really hot, the thermo turns off the main element and the K W element keeps the water hot. The K M element is very a easy fix, it is the small looking white rope that runs around the bottom of the pot. You have 1-nut and 1- screw to remove. When removing the screw from the main element you must hold the (leg) that the K M element is screwed to so it does not bend and brake off. Take your time and be firm with the pressure you apply to the screw, while holding it with a pliers.O eBay the KW element is $8.00 and $2.00 S/H. You can BUY-IT-NOW with this auction. Thanks and please ask if you need more help.

Farberware 4 and 12 cup percolators stopped making good coffee

I thoroughly cleaned my 4-cup percolator by brewing a couple of pots of plain white vinegar and scrubbing the build-up from the bottom of the pot (and running a couple of plain water brews through the pot after all the cleaning). The percolator now brews hot, strong coffee again!
