check cables, turn off computer, unplug computer, remove cover, remove video card cables, remove card from computer, than inspect video card, for burns, blown capacitors, shorted wires. if okay, re-install video card, make sure the video card is securied or seated well. change the video cables with good or known good cable or wires. than turn computer on, some monitors have more than 1 or 2 different type of input connectors you mite try a different adapter cable than you are using. i have dvi and vga and hdmi also. so if you have any of these options on the video card it would be worth trying before buying a new monitor.
if when you get up and running you need to go to control panel open device manager, open the file that best describes what device you are having issues with and check the drivers up to date.
if you conitune to have issues than go to control panel open look for troubleshooting, open the folder than select the subject that best describes the problems you have and answer those questions, select what type of help you want.
check the Hz setting in the monitor settings, make sure its 60 Hz
now if your a gamer than you can go into the website where you got your video card from download the optimizer software, where they do the tweaking for you or you do your own tweaking,
make sure the resolution not set to high. go into control panel, go to device manager, open monitor, check every thing, drivers, advanced options, calibrate you computer to what works best for you, go threw the calibration section, do the visual test, all test, color test, letter test, than the computer will run it own test and than it will take what you want out of the monitor and what the computer needs and make the match that both of you can live with.
its alot of work but you will see better and maybe help in areas you did not know you had issues with or problems

This is probable the lcd backlight inverter. If you have sound then look at the screen up close with a flashlight and see if there are images. If you can see images then the back light has problems and it is most likely the inverter.
