How can i remove case on Sony Boombox CFD-E10?

Power intermittent when plugged into AC adapter. Seems like bad connection on printed circuit board - needs resoldering. Removed all (i think) screws, but can't remove case and don't want to break.

Sony cfd-s01 boombox radio

Hi Bart,
You will find there is a specification plate on the rear of the unit.
It should have a rating on it showing the wattage of the unit. This is usually the amount needed to operate all the functions of the boombox.
The wattage is your input voltage multiplied by the current draw in amps. So the amperage is the rated wattage of the unit divided by the input voltage.
Usually all power goes through the transformer, so I would use this input amperage as a guide, and assuming there is no power loss, use the same calculation for the output - you know it is 9 volts, so the wattage going to the unit is the same as the input wattage, so you can calculate the amperage from this.
Transformers usually work on AC input/output, so there will also be a rectifier to convert the AC to DC for your boombox.
I would add 10 - 20% above your calculation to make sure you have sufficient power. Also I suggest that you install a fuse between your transformer and the boombox for safety.

Would like to know where i may get the ac adapter for the sony cfd-e75 cd radio cassette -corder

Your Sony CDF-E75 does not require external power adaptor; it has an AC power input so you can plug here the included power cable. Do you need the power cable or do you need the internal transformer?

Will not operate under battery power. Only operates with AC power adapter.

hi,
the problem could be from rust of the connector of the battery, open the battery case of the appliances and clean the connectors with a cloth soaked with methylated spirit, if this do not work, try opening the back cover of the appliances to check if the wire connecting the connector to the printed circuit board of the appliances is intact.
Also check for dry soldering, if found resolder.

Sony CFD-E100 now only powers up on batteries

The AC inlet needs to be replaced, there are bad solder connections on the PC board for the inlet, or the traces are cracked on the board. I have seen all of hte above over the years for these types of units. The power board can be puirchased for $28.11 using part number: A-1124-986-A from tritronicsinc.com.

I don't have the part number for the actual inlet at teh moment, but I'll try to locate that number for you as well. Check for poor solder connections or a cracked trace first and update this with the results.

Intermittent Power Problem when playing CDs

Hello db1964,

I have a cdf-e75 that had a similar problem, although the red power light was dim for all functions. (the radio, tape and cd)
After opening up the unit and inspecting, I found one of the pins on the printed circuit board for the power had broken away from the solder. (it is a tiny board where the AC connector is soldered to) Seems in my unit there is nothing securing the molded AC connecter to the plastic case except the the printed circuit board it is soldered to-It is a poor design; perhaps your is the same? I suspect over time pushing the AC cord into the back of the player may have broke the connection? Anyway, I soldered the connection and I have never had any additional problems as the unit has worked fine since.
Don't know if this helps, but my suggestion would be to open the unit and inspect the pin connections on the AC printed circuit board to see if any have a loose/broken connection. ( Mine was not noticible with the naked eye as I had to use a magnifying lens and a bright light. Hope this might help.

No power to unit

Remove the power plug and reopen the unit. Usually the socket will be soldered directly to a Printed Circuit Board. Look in the underside (where the solder joints are and you'll see the joints associated with the power socket. One of these is either a bad connection or the solder pad has lifted and broken the track on the PC board. If it's the solder pads give them a workout with a soldering iron if it still plays up scrape the protective lacquer of the PCboard Tracks and resolder them to the socket's solder joints. This should solve your problem. The best way to spot a bad connection is to reinsert your plug (making sure the other end isn't plugged into the wall socket) and lever the plug up, down, left and right. If there's anything faulty you'll see it. The solder joints will move very slightly and if the track is fractured you should spot that too. One other tip is that there is a switch built into the socket which will disable the battery power when you plug the unit into power. I have seen a few of these switches go bad but the chance of that is extremely small. I'd put my money on the socket's solder joints. BMW
