Pamela,
You can usually go back to the manufacturer's website to get parts but you will also usually pay premium prices that way. If you give us the make and model of your vacuum we might be able to point you in the direction where you can save some money.

Bag was changed, but vaccum cleaner will not reset itself

You could have a clogged hose, afterfilter, or worn/broken control valve assembly.
1. To check the filter, press the tab located at the bottom of the tool holder/air diffuser. See photo below. Lift air diffuser. There may or not be a filter here. If there is, remove it, then check machine operation.

2. Disconnect hose form canister. Turn on machine. Place hand over intake. If the machine turns off during this process, the control valve assembly is broken or worn out. Replacement needs to be done at an authorized Aerus franchise service center.

3. To check the hose, disconnect both ends. Drop a marble or similar size item in one end and allow to roll out the other. If it doesn't, the hose is clogged. This will cause the machine to shut off as well.

Vaccuum cleaner with a broken hose

Is it just the corrugations of the hose broken? With most hose fittings there are two small oval shaped lugs on the side of the fitting. Grab a small screwdriver and gently (you may need a little force) push these in to ease the click ring out.

Once out, you'll find a type of screw cuff. Some hoses just unscrew, some are glued in (use boiling hot water to soften to separate).

Cut the broken piece of hose off, make sure the click ring is still on the hose in the right direction, reaffix the screw cuff, and replace the hose (with click ring) back into the hose fitting.

If it's actually the hose fitting broken, check with your local Wertheim retailer or repairer.

How do I attache the hose on an Electrolux Epic Cannister vacuum and have it lock into place?

If you are having trouble hooking the hose to the machine, your latch is mostlikely broken. This can be replaced. You can either buy the latch at your Aerus/Electrolux shop and replace it yourself if you are mechanical or have the service manager do it for you. There shouldn't be very much of a charge for this simple process.
If you are talking about hooking the hose to the wands, there is a latch that will need to be replaced. If so, the best thing to do is have the service manager replace the latch because there are wires in the hose handle that are sometimes hard to deal with.

Progressive Kenmore hose canister connection broken 116,2341130

A regular person with patience can however it is tricky. Kenmore hoses have an arrow at the cuff where the corrugated hose meets the swivel elbow at the machine, and at the cuff where the handle meets the hose. If your parts fit in the handle, the cuff needs to be squeezed slightly out of round at the arrows to allow the handle to be popped out, usually by using a vice and applying a sharp blow by hand to the underside of the hand grip.
If your problem is in the lower sleeve area where dirt gets into the contacts at the machine end, there is a 1" clip with bayonets on either side. It must be compressed at the bayonets to allow the sleeve to slide off. The internal contact rings should be cleaned and polished with W/D sand paper #600 and then lubed with vaseline. Contact fingers should be spread to apply more pressure on the internal rings before reassembling in opposite order.
When in doubt Panasonic and Kenmore warranty centers will be familiar with these.

Hose connection broken.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
If you have a broken hose connection, and not knowing the brand name of the vacuum, I can suggest 2 things. If you have an electric hose, meaning that it is attached to a electric power head or power nozzle, some can be repaired depending on what was wrong, but most of the time you have to replace the hose, some pigtails can be replaced but if the electric connection is broken, you need to replace the hose. If it is a non-electric hose, you can use a shrink tube, or cut out the broken part and use a hose cuff to join them together, so just shorten the hose and screw back on the original ends. In either case you need to check with a local vac dealer. Or you can make a new hose with new ends and leave the canister @ the bottom of the stairs and go up with just the long hose, unless you have an upright then you have to make it the length that is on the upright. Or replace it with the genuine hose from the factory or use the ends from the old hose on the replacement hose. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don – The Vac Man
