Somewhat depends on what "does not like" actually means. So far, I've not found any USB item that works differently on my Surface than on my laptop or desktop, Windows 7 or 8.

Is there an error message? What does it say?

Testimonial: "Hello Jay, I connected the Toshiba v63700-c to Surface 3 Pro's USB port. The power light came on. However the PC did not see that was a disk. I could not find any message."

You may need a powered hub. Powering a hard drive off a USB from a tablet may be marginal. A powered USB hub plugs into the wall, and may be exactly what you need.

Maxstor 6L250R0 external USB drive does not appear in My Computer or Windows Explorer after upgrade to Windows 7 Pro and Toshiba Tecra laptop.

You are missing A Driver for the USB Port, that didn't get installed By you're New OS. Go to the Laptops Manufacturer web site and Look for Diagnostic Tools for You're Machine. It Will Give You a List of All Drivers that are not Loaded for You're machine, as Shipped from the Factory.Follow the Steps to load and install . And You should Be fine. Remember to run you're System Tools to Keep you machine running @ Peak .The Correct Drivers are very Machine Specific and Are Not All Generic Like in the Win OS. that will Make Most things run.But the Drivers from the Factory are very Specific Because of the Different Vendor parts installed By the Factory, And Windows will only cover very Generic Software to get you're machine running.Since they cannot Cover All Vendor Part software on 1 little disk.

I have a SimpleTech Pininfarina 500GB external hard drive. I used it at work on my PC. Now it's home and I want to restore some files using my Macbook Pro computer. How can I restore and access some...

First connect harddrive to mac with usb or firewire cable. Then go to Open a new finder window by clicking on the icon in the Dock. Click on the name of the external hard drive under the "Devices" list on the left side of the Finder window. This will open a window that displays all of the content currently on the external hard drive.
Drag and drop files from your external hard drive into computer. A progress bar will pop up on the screen. When the copying process is complete, the data has been successfully transferred to the computer. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hello, What cable or adaptor do I need to transfer all data from the hard disk of my Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 to my new laptop via USB port? Thanks.

You won't be able to transfer hard drive data by plugging one computer into another via USB. In order to transfer data, you will need to remove the hard drive from the Toshiba Satellite Pro, use an external hard drive enclosure, and attach that to your new computer with any USB cable.
The hard drive can be taken out by removing screws on the bottom of your laptop. The drive can be found in the bottom left of this picture: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-a205/big/toshiba-satellite-a200-a205-02.jpg

How do I remove the hard drive in Toshiba SatellitePro A10 EN? (Removing the plastic cover exposes only the end of the hard drive. I'm reluctant to just start pulling on it!

  • The original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD is fitted into a Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive cradle - Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 HDD caddy.

      • Gently remove the cradle from the laptop, yes pull on it
      • Unscrew the original Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive & remove it from the cradle.
      • Screw the new Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 Hard Disk Drive into the cradle & refit the cradle into the laptop.
      • Re-install XP or Vista

External hard drive won't connect to computer

first of all you should try it on deferent pc , if its ok then thatleads us to insufficient power provided through usb ports , try usingback usb ports not the ON-front, and if the problem still try usingdual-usb cable like thishttp://www.cooldrives.com/usb-power-cable-mini-b.htmland if the external hdd doesn't work at all it might be the usb controller board inside the hdd cage needs to be changedif you cant find a similar one you may buy a new empty cage

I have this on my screen on boot PXE -E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE CHECK CABLE PXE- MOF EXITING PXE ROM WHAT CABLE DO I NEED TO CHECK?

The hard drive may just need reseating to make it work, failing that the hard drive is either faulty or the had disk controller is faulty.
To test the hard drive, remove it and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug it into a working computer's USB port, if you see this drive as a external drive and can see the contents of the hard drive the it is OK.
If the hard drive isn't recogonized then the hard drive is faulty and you need to get a new hard drive for your laptop and install Windows, the drivers and your programs etc.
