Turn off your phone, then press both soft keys next to D-Pad and power
on device. After moment release both soft keys. On the black screen
asking for confirmation press "green phone" button and wait couple
minutes for phone to initialize
Plug your Hero Into your computer, via the charging cable.
Usually you can pull the drop screen down from the top of the screen and select Tethering.
If for some reason that option isn't there then follow these steps.
Press menu, settings, Wireless & Networks, then Tethering.
You usually have to use the cable you're phone came with. not all cables that charge you're phone will allow the Tethering.
Obviously first thing is battery, maybe it is defective. Or it could be contacts in the battery compartment. Or the power button. You could try the soft reset (right-hand side of the phone under the back cover, a red (or green) button.
Do you have a TMO Dash?
If so you can perform a master reset. ****NOTE**** this will erase any
settings or content you have on the phone. With the phone off you can
hold the left and right soft key and tap the power button once. This is
a hard reset and will restore all factory settings.

It usually happens if you dropped your phone, the casing cannot be broken by only pressing it. Even if you try to press the casing too hard, it won't break off, so it might have been dropped by you or someone else.
I find the HTC touch drops many more calls than other phones I've had. Just doesn't seem to be able to hold a weak signal very well. On my way home from work, I had 2 places where I dropped calls. When I got the HTC Touch, I now have about 4 or 5 places where I lose calls. One additional place is sitting at my desk at work. Very frustrating!
Remove the battery from the mobile, press the power button, for 30 seconds.
Re attach the charger , switch on the phone. If it turns on switch it off again and reinsert the battery and check.
If none of the above steps work, you would have to take it in for repairs as there could be a problem with the power supply inside the phone , that would require special tools to open

After moment a black screen will appear and offer to restore basic settings. release both soft keys. NOTE you will clear the phone completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
