Shifter pawl adjustments FXR 5 speed

Hi Anonymous, remove transmission top cover, then put the tansmission in third gear, lift up slightly on shift lever feeling and observing spring pressure and freeplay until shifter pawl makes contact with shifter cam pin, repeat process pushing slightly down. Freeplay and spring pressure distance should be equal to within .010" There is an adjustment screw with a jam nut on the left side of the transmission case by the shift lever. Good luck

No second gear

Instructions

1.
The 2nd gear lockout is, a mechanical speed sensing mechanism. It doesn't care if the engine is running. You bypass it by scooting the bike forward, about 5-6 mph, while shifting the transmission into 2nd gear.
2

Stand on the left side of the bike, with the ignition "ON" and the transmission in neutral.
3 With your right foot on the ground, behind your left foot: place your left foot on the left foot peg, with your toe under the shifter; squeeze in the clutch.
*4.Scoot the bike forward about 5-6 mph, with your right foot, and shift the transmission into 2nd gear, with your left foot. If you accidentally go into 3rd, or some higher gear, you can easily shift back down into 2nd, without further movement of the bike.
5.To start the bike: Apply the choke if the engine is cold. Squeeze in the clutch and push the bike forward, both feet on the ground, about 8-12 mph. Release the clutch until the engine start
6
As soon as the engine starts: squeeze in the clutch and shift the bike into neutral.

First time driving a 1967 Triumph motorcycle coming up. Would like advice on where stuff is like clutch, brake, shifter and how to shift -- where the gears are. Thanks. Art asanfelici@verizon.net

Hi Art! First of all, congratulations on your 1967 Triumph... that's a beauty!!!

Basic things to know before riding a bike is it's parts.

Clutch is the lever you press on the left side of the handle bar.

Front disc brake is the lever on the right side of the handle bar.

Shifter is the one you're stepping on when shifting gears and is located on the left side of the engine if you're on it.

Now, you must first know if the gear is on Neutral by pushing the bike before starting the bike. If it's hard to push then the shifter is not in neutral. Press the shifter by your left foot until you are able to push the bike with ease.

Hop on the bike and start the engine. Most bikes have ignition starters but if your bike doesn't have one, then you have to turn keys to on position and use the kick starter. Rev the engine by pressing the throttle grip on the right side of the handle bar.

Engine is running and in idle position. Press the Clutch lever (left hand) and press the shifter once (left foot) DO NOT RELEASE THE CLUTCH YET!!!

Slowly press the throttle with your right hand until you hear or feel the engine purr...

Slowly release the clutch (left hand) until you fell the bike move forward.

If I am not mistaken, shifting the gears of the triumph is 1-down and 4 up...

Every time you shift gears, you need to press the clutch to release the gears.

Hope you'll have fun!!!

Ride safe my friend!!!

Don't forget your riding gears!!!

^_^

I have been given a bike with Shimano gears.Left hand 123,Righthand 1234567.Can you give me a normal setting to start riding using them and getting used to them.

I would start out with the left gear set to 2 and the right shifter set to 4 or 5. If that's too difficult, then shift the left gear to 1.

Most people really don't shift gears on bikes much and that's a shame because it can make cycling much easier. I would advise you to take some time to learn about shifting as it will make riding much easier, especially if there are any hills around.

The left hand shifter is for the 3 large gears in between your pedals. This shifter produces the biggest change in effort. As a general rule, use the first one for uphills, the middle for flats and the last one for downhills. Of course this is all relative to your conditioning. You should attempt to maintain a pedaling cadence of 75-90 (in general) so that you always feel like the pedals are spinning and that you are not grinding it out. The right hand shifter is for the 7 gears on the rear of the bike and are used for smaller changes. Here is a link that will provide more detailed info on this subject. Happy cycling!

82 toyota 4x4 5 speed transmission. The gear shifter will spin all the way around but still works if you line it up.

shifter can be removed with shifter boot out of the way, and pushing down and turning round collar at base of shifter to the left or right, with shift lever out it should be easy to tell weather the bottom of shift lever is worn or broken off.

Need to remove the cable from the 105 flight deck

This really depends on what cable you need to replace, the brake or the shifter.

For Shifter:
1. Shift the all the way down to the lowest gear using the small inside shift level for both the front or rear.
2.Disconnect the cable from the derailluer, likely a 5mm allen wrench will be needed.
3.Pull housing away from the shifter exposing the cable where it enters the shifter.
4.Compress the brake lever, this will expose a small hole on the inside of the shifter where the cable head is seated. For the right shifter the hole will be on the right, for the left shifter the hole will be on the left.
5. Push the cable in from where the cable entered the shifter. The head of the cable will now be exposed.
6.Pull the cable the rest of the way out of the shifter.
7.Install the new cable.

For Brake:

1. Disconnect the brake cable, likely with a 5 mm allen wrench.
2. Compress the brake lever. Keep it compressed until step 5.
3.Look straight in from the front of the bike, you will see the head of the brake cable.
4.Push the cable out of the shifter from the exposed area of the cable, then pull once you can reach the end of the cable.
5.Install a new cable.

Depending on the reason you have removed the cable, it is advised that you also replace the housing in most cases. For the shift cables this is not a problem, however, for the brake cables you will have to untape the bars to access the housing.

I hope this anwsers your question. Thank you

1997 pontiac sunfire manual transmission won't shift out of gear.

What you can try is to remove the shift cables from the transmission side. then move the shifter and see if everything is free if it's still sticks then the cables are going to be replaced. if everything is moving with the cable off. then you need to remove the shift tower on the tranny (where the shift cable is I belive it's 5 bolts) remove the tower and you will see the shift pin. Inside the tower there is a cotter pin that breaks and that will cause you to have one gear and unable to selected another gear. If you are not mech inclined I would no attemped the shift tower repaire, the cables do it will save you money. The shift tower has bushings that can fall into the tranny.
